It seems that the current style of aggressive, combative and toxic politics in the US, and increasingly in other countries, can be laid firmly at the door of Newt Gingrich:

Good time to drop that in case people are voting on the way home

This was the guy whose private jet was mysteriously touring Trump rally locations in the weeks before the election, no?

Can't see why that would attract attention...

This seems a bit optimistic though

Lowlifes like Cohen might do deals with the feds, but I imagine Russian oligarchs would have additional things to keep them quiet.

Apparently Meuller is looking at Arron Banks emails to the Russian ambassador too.

If russia did buy or compromise Brexiters, trump or anyone, Putin has made it very clear that people that betray him are not safe wherever they are.

Trump and the Republicans are quite keen on rendition, waterboarding and other rather dubious methods of information gathering, I wonder if they will be so keen to implement those methods to find the truth when they are in the cross hairs.

the democrat commentator on bbc early news made and interesting point that the now they (the democrats) have control of the lower house and therefore its committees they can subpoena  documents (including donnies tax returns)

If the Democrats spend the next two years going after Trump then they will hand him a second term, they have to be really smart how they do things.

Yep, which is why they tried as much as possible not to mention him in campaigning, they don't need to go after him more than keeping the process going. Doing the committee things presenting the evidence and his republican support drops.

Trump has done enough to take himself down and will continue to give that to the world

agree wth pigface, dems did well but Trumps base stayed very resilient, even if some of the traditional rep base turned against him, they still backed plenty of upleasant candidates!

even if meuller produces a smoking gun, his supporters will still be able to call it #fakenews & carry on as normal

think the democrates did well considering they were sailing into a "The economy, stupid" headwind, though the US electorate does like to hamstring the sitting president as the incumbent with such good economic numbers he really should be doing better (they were run pretty close in a lot of very safe republican senate seats)

But according to his Twitter Trump still thinks that he won last night.

It’s almost a shame Ninny isn’t here to tell us how this was an unbridled success for him, and he’s got everyone right where he wants them. Couldn’t have gone better.

He didn't lose as badly as some people expected which is disappointing, now let's some tax returns.

Trump has done enough to take himself down

Has he?  By losing one house he now has someone else to blame when the economy collapses.  If he still had a free hand, then all f***ups over the next 2 years would have been down to him, now they're not.  He's done enough to give himself a better chance of being re-elected.

Nothing to do with that, meetings with the wrong people, money from the wrong places, debts to the wrong institutions, some of his direct interference in various departments (census is the recent one) all point to some very difficult times ahead for him.

Muller isn't onto nothing and some of that dirt will stick with the greater Republicans rather than what people think is his base.

After that he can move onto his mistakes in politics

The one good thing about the result is that he does have less power over the investigations and investigators so I hope you're right

As he ^ said. Trump will be over the moon with this result. He didn’t want to be president and now he can go back to being a campaigner and he can blame someone else that his policies aren’t being enacted.

It’s clear that the actual ‘being president’ bit bores him, it’s the fight and showmanship he enjoys.

If he's not impeached can he be arrested and charged with various crimes once he's no longer president? Obviously a lot of investigations are going on and while he's president he has a certain level of protection but once he's out I'm guessing hesh fair game.

Yes though he has pardon powers..... simple version is it's complicated, probably would end up in the Supreme court and would certainly have nothing to do with getting Kavanagh into the court with his views/interpretation on executive privilege

I kind of miss him as well. The place was more entertaining, I think we were too mean to him. We spoiled our own fun.

Well I kind of imagined him while Trump was delivering he we won speech and trying to shut down/ignore any awkward question he was asked.

It was depressing to think that was the voice of somebody who claims to be a leader

And Trump fires Sessions - sorry he resigns on request. Muller needs to be watching his back there....

Nothing to see here, nothing at all

Except Congress will now be protecting rather than undermining it.

How quickly can this all unravel?

When Maggie went it was pretty quick from what I remember, different situation I know.

Maggie was taken down from within the party, the Republican party so far have proven to be weak brown nosing pathetic sycophants, there seems to be no will to challenge him.

Meuller not stupid, he would be prepared for this.

There's a reason trump's moving swiftly, Meuller has to wait until after election is finished.

Even tho investigation far from over he'll need to get stuff out there fast.

Let's hope he does as Arron Banks russian contacts now being looked at too.

It's all about the 💲💲💲💲

his aides have wrestled the mic from Jim Acosta (CNN)

And as a result Acosta has been accused of "placing his hands on a young woman" and has lost his press pass to the Whitehouse.

Amazing diversionary tactics from the orange one.

Link to said hand placement

At no point did jim acosta place his hands on her

Looks more like the aide attempted to grab the mic before dropping to her knees and assuming the position.

The Whitehouse have released a video of the “assault”, which appears to have been doctored compared to the original live NBC footage!

You’d think the pres who, let’s remember, would go into a school unarmed to tackle a gunman, would’ve stopped Acosta in the act, to stick up for the intern wouldn’t you?

Wouldn’t you?

In accordance with normal White House procedure?

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/08/opinion/trump-attorney-general-sessions-unconstitutional.html

Bit of a battle brewing in Justice at the moment, having just seen the videos from the press conf too it's looking very desperate there how many rational people need to look the other way now?

I love how male alt-righters suddenly care about a woman apparently getting assaulted. It seems the only time they do believe them is when they are verifiably lying!

Did you see her sit down to trumps command. Like a robot.

He is a nasty piece of work. I just can’t understand how he’s the leader of the free world.

This episode takes it to another level.

It's not like we didn't know, but it's nice to see prosecutors are building a case
