The question is whether that approach will work now or whether he has failed to adapt to changing circumstances.
The outspend them or pay them off after threatening to outspend them is fine against a porn star escort or some family building company who, assuming they have honest lawyers, will listen to the advice that whilst they might win the chances are they will be outspent in appeal after appeal so best settle/give up since the possible returns simply arent worth it.
It isnt clear it will work so well against a state or national investigators who will shrug and go "not my money".

It's really frustrating, because everyone is focusing on the fact that he had these documents (which is undisputed I think?) - what I really want to know is WHY did he have them? What was he doing/intending to do with them?
It's one thing pinching classified material - it's another thing distributing..... or even selling it.
The trouble will be proving that latter part. They could get him for holding the docs, but proving his intention to sell to a foreign agent will be near impossible.
I'd say it is possible for him (he could get good money for them), but a prosecution would need someone to confirm that.
Wasn't there a claim that there's a second criminal case being investigated, linked to this one but not public? I thought there were court documents signed by same judge and interrelated evidence, but which were not made public.
With how sensitive things are it really would not surprise me if the investigating team did have more accusations, but choosing which to follow and to keep them private until full evidence is established, and without revealing national secrets as they go.

Although there were a lot of empty folders too and some of the paperwork that was returned had been torn up - so maybe as much motivated my shame as vanity. Aside from the empty folders at Mar a Lago he was also flushing torn up paperwork down the toilets in the Whitehouse.
Trump tended to act aggressively towards Whitehouse officials who wrote any notes during meetings - he didnt like anything being written down. Theres no doubt behind the facade he's hugely humiliated by his time in office. The idea that every single note, document and transaction during those four years becoming part of a permanent public record must be pretty haunting.

I think the qanon lunatics/radicalised halfwits and their followers are pretty much the only group that he can still count on without question. Preaching to the converted has always been his thing- he doesn't like convincing people, he likes having crowds cheer when he says what they want to hear, so it's pretty natural for him to go ever deeper in that direction. Looks like it'll continue to reduce his wider appeal and lead to an increase in dangerous madness from him, while keeping him in the public eye enough that people will see it happening even while the legal stuff continues, so I reckon it's mostly self harming but at the same time it'll stop him from becoming as irrelevant as if he tried to stay more mainstream- he'll have less support, but the support he has will be waaaay more movivated and dangerous.

Judge Raymond Dearie, the special master overseeing the seizure of documents from Mar-a-Lago, signaled to lawyers for former President Donald Trump that if they don't make a case that any of the documents were declassified, he would determine that they're classified.
In his comments the judge told them they can’t have their cake and eat it! That’s blunt language for this sort of thing. I don’t think the lawyers have said they have been declassified though, that’s come from the Donald himself. He must be a nightmare to work for in a legal case.

The midterms will be interesting. While "the coalition of crazy" is strengthening it's grip on the republican party, it is yet to be seen if it is resonating at all with the electorate.

The lawyers haven't (can't) say they've been declassified, because they haven't. It's one thing to tweet (or truth or whatever) whatever bollix that you want, it's another thing entirely to make the claim as an attorney in a court of law. Because if it turns out to be a lie (it is) then you could be disbarred and potentially find yourself in the Dock too.
So if Donald is claiming it, but the lawyers aren't using it, that's a pretty good sign that it's all a figment of his imagination. He is well and truly busted!
