On the right* is Prince, a Cavapoo who is, IMHO the most awesome dog in the world. YVMV.

null

He's not our dog, but regularly visits. Tonight, after a trip to the groomers, (which I suspect I may have paid for) my panicky missus has noticed a some red, tender, scratchy looking skin under his front 'arm'pit. It very much looks like the kind of dry itchy skin I get on my legs occasionally this time of the year from being outside in cold windy weather. There's no way Prince's mum and mum will pay for the vet for a minor issue like this, (kids, not well paid jobs, other dogs) and it's not my job either, but a rub of E45 sorts out my leg dryness, so I'm thinking that'll do Prince no harm either and might actually help.

TLDR - can I use basic human skin moisturiser on a dog.

*on the left is my uncle's dog Feldy. She's, er 'a character'. 😁

We used it on our dog, with no ill effects, no positive effects either. Currently on day 2 with 4mg Piriton to see if that will ease his scratching in case it's allergy related

+1 for Piriton. Our dog gets the same, but he is allergic to life. The Piriton helps with some of his symptoms but this time of year he starts to get more areas of dry skin.

What's he fed on? A lot of dry kibble based foods seem to upset dogs skin. Not that you're in a position to change this, but a raw diet can help a lot.

Friend of ours has a CockerPoo and had issues early on with skin and coat condition, put it on raw food (from dried food) and it has thrived ever since. Lovely shiny coat and no skin issues and endless supply of energy!

He's fed on cheap wet food with a few biscuits at home. He gets Lilly's kitchen here, which looks and smells nice enough that I'd eat it. A prince indeed.

Thanks for the advice, it's only a small patch, I'd best not start with Pirton, it's not something that would be carried on at home anyway. I'll just keep an eye on it and as suggested keep it clean and dry.

It's not bothering him, no excessive scratching or licking.

My dog gets sore skin if she manages to snaffle food she’s allergic to. Chicken seems to be the primary culprit. She has a salmon and rice food which is fine. Coincidentally the same as a cockerpoo down the road - sore paws unless she sticks to fish and rice.

after a trip to the groomers

Don't do anything for a few days and see if it clears up. May have been irritated by the groomer / grooming products.
