Ok, maybe people are making more of this than I intended.
As for me, I file me under annoying. The same place as offline too!
That's not the first run in with JY, Cougar, though it's probably the one about which I was warned. The first run in set the tone TBH and I'll sadly admit to feeling a little vengeful after being on the receiving end of his "teaching" method on a previous thread, which is, after all, the stance I initially take on the Hebdo thread.
But... it's an interesting thread to highlight. Contained within is examples of someone rushing to defend one of their own, someone remembering a post or two from way back being accused of stalking and a post removed whereby I demonstrate my true tone by using merino in place of cotton. It's the small details, y'see...
I mimicked his behaviour - he didn't like it, unsurprisingly. To allow one user and not the other to behave in such a fashion is biased, whichever way you want to cut it.
I'm bored of messing with him now so warning or not it's over. Despite claiming he wouldn't modify his behaviour he actually has. I'm chuffed with that! Really; it's a Good Thing.
The thing is that some forum members know others personally. When you know someone in real life, it puts a completely different interpretation on their forum posts. Having spent a few hours and drunk a cup of tea or two with Junkyard, and not had a single quote related argument, I can understand his forum posts much better.
That might be why it appears heirarchical here. It's not that peopel are favouring their mates, it's just that they can't help but understand their posts better. Most of us aren't really arseholes after all. It's just our writing style.
Firstly...
Having spent a few hours and drunk a cup of tea or two with Junkyard, and not had a single quote related argument
...LOL
Secondly, everyone has the opportunity to read and correct a post for 15 minutes. You can choose to be rude or condescending or humorous or a mix. You can offset hardened prose with a smiley but still get your point across. I demonstrate on that thread that anyone can be rude and condescending in order to "teach" someone about themselves. JY, at that point in time and no doubt others since, was rude and it's a deliberation. With me in particular he edited a post to add a condescending comment. Pork Wah...?!!
There's no need, regardless of whether or not you're acquainted with that person. True respect is impartial.
Pork Wah...?!!
Are you making him an escape goat?
Would you drink tea strained through the sweaty gussett of a mods bib padding?
Nope
🙂
no.
yes.
bugger.
Oh, i really am an unashamedly unrelenting arsehole in real life too, Mol 😉
I think you are misreading Junkyard. But then I too know him a bit in real life. I too can appear to be far more condescending and aggressive than I intend to be as he can and whilst I couldn't be bothered to read that thread I would doubt he intended to be rude unless he thought you offensive first.
MY guess is its back to the perennial missed nuance in text based conversations - that and Junkyard does not use smilies to indicate he is not being serious.
Deleted.
Junkyard does not use smilies to indicate he is not being serious.
He does these days.
But in order to keep this from spilling onto even more pages, I'll agree; it was my mistake.
Edit :
Would you drink tea strained through the sweaty gussett of a mods bib padding?
🙂 You are the Lee Van Cleef of the edit world. Harry got caught.
Personally I think that.... [oh hells no! - MODS]
Me and JY bicker just as much in real life as we do on here. We recently argued with each other all the way up Pendle Hill, and everyone else had to wait of us at the top. But then he's worth it....

Teasel - I am not attributing blame nor saying its your fault in any way - indeed I can understand why Junkyard annoys. I am trying to explain perhaps why I think it happened.
If its any help Junkyard is an ageing hippy with a male menopause ponytail - that help you to laugh at him rather than be annoyed by him?
I thought he was a short angry bloke until I met him. really he looks more like this [img]
[/img]
Heh
Well, thank your lucky starts you'll likely never meet me. I may come across like a hippy but in reality I'm a short angry bloke...
Well, same height as Lady Gresley but STILL ANGRY!
And for the record, I laugh at a lot of what gets posted most of the time (Junkyard included) but that probably comes down to the threads I choose to open.
Most long running threads hold little appeal.
I don't know if I really post enough to get any kind of character across
I used to think that, but then I realised that people convey character every time they post, it's as easy to make judgements about people based on one post as it is several, and when you don't keep a mental note of who's who that is when up can end up making a snap judgement based on a small sample rather than a more complete representation.
Not to mention that a lot of us only post when we feel compelled to do so due to a strong opinion about something, which means in some cases you only ever interact with the most extreme facets of a person's nature, if you catch my drift?
My online posting profile probably only represents a small part of my interests and views (namely the ones I feel strongly enough anout to bother posting), it's the same for most of us which means trying to get a mental picture based on that can often lead to misinterpretations and bias that you would not have if/when you meet them in real life.

It's the way it's continued for the last five years

No, I am truly an arsehole...
anyone who knows Junky, knows how scarily true that picture of Neil is........... 😆

I do and that's quite astute of you. We only see the passion of the poster, as it were.
*hides under the desk from Teasel*
's alright, TJ, I'm angry not aggressive. Angry is cool and acceptable. Aggression is shunned and unnecessary. 8)
I can't say that I've noticed
🙂
Hopefully I can go back to that obscurity after this thread has slipped away.

Edukator did.
To be fair, he and I 'know' each other from a long time ago on a different forum in a galaxy far, far away...
Junkyard. Scaring children since 1972. Long flowing locks hidden from view.

Is that Kenneth Williams at the back?
Looks like someone has very recently pissed in his chips.
i used to bite, but when you meet me in the woods i'm a pussycat
lowey, just been looking through your photo's mate. plenty that make me smile and laugh, but a few that make me sad. miss riding with Deejay more than ever. 🙁
10. also rides a fatbike but rides other places in the south midlands as well as Cannock, has a beard and has his handle on his bike.

Normal for Newton Abbot.
I was born in Newton Abbot. I can call myself normal then 😀
That is a terrifying pic of Junkyard
Not trying to resurrect a spat, but interesting to see I was also arguing against JY on that particular thread - I think it may have been before I met him though? But I'm also quite surprised to find him favoured by the mods - JY along with another "big hitter" who's posted on this thread seem to have got the raw end of that deal more than once, getting a ban for causing trouble when they were simply provoking others by sticking to their guns and not actually being aggressive and rude themselves. But then having read that thread, and also the previous linked one, I'm with JY on the comment which seems to have caused the aggro...
Anyway, as molgrips suggests, there is a bit of a familiarity thing with some of us who have either met in real life or because we interact with our real personas on FB (which interestingly do tend to be a bit different to on here - I'm only FB friends with a handful of people on here, but friends of friends to a lot of the regular posters so see their comments - mainly when arguing with TJ 😉 ). Having said that I think some of teasel's assumptions of how things work here are misplaced - it's certainly not deliberate.
**** Buddies? Have I missed something, when were the keys chucked in the bowl?
miss riding with Deejay more than ever.
Aye, top fella. A proper good guy. We've lost quite a few good ones from here over the years. 😥
Having said that I think some of teasel's assumptions of how things work here are misplaced - it's certainly not deliberate.
Well, one of my assumptions was that threads on this forum get discussed on Facebook and so certain info gets lost to some. By mentioning the FB connection you've kind of confirmed that as a possibility.
Also, some of my assumptions are based on other things I haven't mentioned here but are shared by Bullheart, for instance, which he revealed many moons ago, the subject of which shall not be discussed for fear of a lifetime ban. Some read his short-lived post (and took a copy), others weren't so quick...
🙂

At least IME that assumption is inaccurate though - I can't think of a thread on here getting discussed on FB apart from in private conversations with somebody who was on a long term ban.
From certain posts I've read over the years where clear references to a FB comment are made it kind of clinches it for me, so hardly inaccurate.
But we could argue the toss all day - and just in time for pantomime season, too. Let's just say scone or scone and be done, eh.
anyone who knows Junky, knows how scarily true that picture of Neil is...........
... and has evidently never seen any photos of Nick Cave.
is this a tinged irony thread?

IIRC someone got a lifetime ban after a Twitter conversation, so there can be some off-forum discussion going on.
The only time I've ever been involved it was with a couple of folk who were serving a lifetime ban.

Doesn't matter now.
Edukator now has an actual picture of Junkyard in his dossier.
