got an old htc desire HD and am about to take over my wifes One X now she has a new M8. different sim sizes tho. do i need to contact three and ask for a new sim, or can i cut it down to the new size? and if i can cut it down, how accurate do i need to be and whats the chances of it all going horribly wrong and being left with no sim?

cheers

You can get a sim cutter for about a quid.

Cut mine down with a pair of sharp scissors. Mini to micro.

ah right, so something like this?

i assume i can only go standard to micro? and nano will be smaller than the gold contacts so would definitely need a new card? im pretty sure i only need standard to micro, that last question was just out of interest.

thanks

EDIT: hmm so you can go micro to nano too? but i assume just not standard to nano then.

M8 is the smallest SIM. I went from an S3 to an m8 and trimmed it with scissors.

Normal to micro - sharp scissors easy enough. Mind also easy to get a new one from a shop/sent out then swap the number.

Micro to nano - technically thinner as well as small on the XY plane, so if you cut down there's danger of bending spring contacts so that an actual nano sim has issues.

Can't you just ask the operator for a new one? O2 will give you one

As per DrJ. GiffGaff send you a sim pack in a couple of days, and can switch the numbers online. Takes about an hour to port.

Imagine most other networks will provide similar. Cutting down works fine, but always better to get s factory fresh one.

Got a free one from Vodafone when I switched my phone. Just popped in store and they gave me it there and then. Walked out with the same number. Job done in under 5mins.

SIM swaps are a 5 minute job, they just swap the sim numbers over against your mobile number. Easy job for the network to do.

If you're close to a 3 shop they'll probably just give you one and set it up on the spot.
