Need to sort this out for my girlfriend.

Which one are you using and why? It's only a cheap flat so deposited < £1000

www.depositprotection.com looks good because it's free but what advantages do
http://www.mydeposits.co.uk or http://www.thedisputeservice.co.uk/ offer over the government run scheme? Worth the money?

Shirley it's the landlord/agent who's supposed to submit the deposit? You (or your girlfriend) pay the deposit to the LL/agent and they have 14 days (or thereabouts) to register it. You'll get a deposit ID and reference number to reclaim. You'll have to use whoever the LL/agent is registered with.

Thanks beargotsoul

@Three fish, She is the landlord, working abroad, so I'm doing everything to do with her flat.
