If I leave it plugged in it is fine, but if I ever unplug it, it takes loads of fiddling to get it going - random unplugging/plugging seems to suddenly bring it back to life.
Very odd, anyone experienced anything similar?
Sounds like a loose connection to me.
I kinda thought that but a loose connection wouldn't 'fix' by me unplugging it at the wall????? 😐
Depends where it's loose and most likely place at the points most often moved, the plug.
maybe a capacitor issue? not sure there's much you could do about it if it's the case unless you can access the system board on it
I assume you've at least taken the plug apart to check it (or it one of those sealed up jobbies)?
Forgot to say - it charges when the fault appears so it isn't a simple lack of power. It just doesn't playback.
Any ideas?
Buy another one?
Bose - throw it out and buy something decent?
Ohh I wondered how long that would take 🙄
Never takes long m_f 😉
Doesn't Bose have some kind of über guarantee though (not piss taking) or is it just standard twelve months?
Never takes long m_f
never takes long when it's Bose...

Please tell us you're here all week. 😐
😀
Guess I am just going to have to plug it in and leave it (I was only moving it over the weekend as I was decorating).
Bose operate a fixed price repair scheme.
Having just used it for father in law's Bose lifestyle cinema system cost was about £120 + VAT.
Worked very well, dropped item into local Bose dealer, returned 2 weeks later and working fine.
Appreciate sounddock value means you've bought 50% of the dock again with a repair.
iphone5 is about to change the connection jack to a smaller design, so if you use an iphone for music and think you may get the next generation iphone maybe wait until its known how apple intends to allow use of sound docks with the existing jack with their new generation iphone.
I have the Bose sounddock II in our bedroom and remain pretty unimpressed. Is harsh at high volume, lacks true stereo separation, is pretty average, but big money with Bose name on side.
I have a Denon M38 solo in my office plus some monitor audio book shelf speakers and the difference between the 2 is massive. The Denon unit can be picked up quite cheaply, similar money to sound dock then add some speakers and actually enjoy decent sound. The Denon unit has been a whathifi fav. for years.
Hope this helps, all intended constructively.
My sounddock will be the only Bose item I ever buy.
If it helps getting people off my back - it was bought as a gift and I had no idea I was getting it. Shall I call all my family (who clubbed together to buy it for my 40th birthday) that they bought me a crap present and I want something better than this inferior shite?

I would say this is a good suggestion and pretty much follows STW lines. Also, ask for some directional dock connectors for your next pressie.
Bose operate a fixed price repair scheme.
they can do that because the component cost is so little that the repair won't exceed the fixed price no matter how much of it they have to replace...
Please tell us you're here all week.
I can be, if it helps 🙂
Paper weight
The humour gets better and better
My original soundock does that sometimes ! I think it's the power supply however its now so beaten up i wont be persuing the repair route.I will add that I have been very happy with mine, it is nice and portable with decent sound.
Does your ipod work normally on other docking stations?
Have you tried another device in the bose?.
Mine is doing the same thing.
Good thing STW wasn't around when I received mine as a nice gift or who knows how I would've reacted!
Not tried the iPod on another docking station (although it does work when plugged in via aux out on a digital radio we have).
Tried my iPhone in the SoundDock and that had the same problem.
And I tried plugging it back in to its normal hiding place plast night and the same thing happened - clearly powered (charge light on iPod came on) but no sound. Unplugged it at the back a couple of times and hey presto, it started working again.
Very odd.
Leave it plugged in now...

I'm sitting in a conference and we are running Bose 802 speakers and eq units that have been in constant use for 20 years. They have traveled thousands of miles and been loaded in and out of countless trucks and vans and I don't think we have ever had one fail.
We are replacing them with portable line arrays over time but I doubt any of those will last as long.
Bose 802 speakers
I suppose that is ok if you think they sound any good (yes - I am familiar with them - you could probably say that they are more competent than their domestic stuff...)
