Flag bearers are struggling in the still air this evening. Best struggle so far was the Belgian.

Well I enjoyed it. Quirky, surreal and original. Bit like the British really. 🙂

Sorry to backtrack, but what was the track played over the memorial wall part?

They use it in loads of sombre/emotional stuff but I can't remember what it's called, and it's doing my head in....

Well I thought the ceremony was ace. Superbly done, comedy, respectful to Olympic tradition and other nations, and a visual feast. 10/10 for Mr Boyle from me, at least. 🙂

I especially liked the forging of the Olympic ring. Genius.

Had the Commentary turned off, what was the significance of the Emily Sanday bit.

1) she's scottish, so ticks a box

2) it's got a fair few significances, not least of which for me is that it's the official hymn of the rugby league challenge cup final and has been sung at every final since 1929. I proper choke up when I try to sing along

overall, it was bloody amazing till the athletes started coming in. wish they'd all run to their places then we can get onto the flame

- hmm, fiji and beegees. fitting

You can say what you like but Britain produces the best State ceremonies bar none and now this has to be among the most stunning openening ceremonies ever.

ditto

German official using a dodgy salute too!

Surely they'll have stw mountain bikers bumbling down the singletrack on that small hill all riding single speeds and stormtroopered up

Needs a crowd of walkers going uphill at the same time!

they didn't seem particularly antisocial or bloody minded... so how do you end up as one. Anyone know?

Very atmospheric track, put together with the Apollo moon landings in mind.
