Is there an effective method or tool to permanently crush milk and soft drink bottles- our council only provides us with a wee crate for recycling, collected fortnightly, and a few milk bottles leaves it overflowing.

a) fit lid loosely
b) stand on bottle till flat
c) tighten lid while still compressed

yes, that's what we do- but they invariable pump up again, can't really get an airtight seal round the lid. We also go through at least 4 pints a day.

4 pints a day 😯 Maybe you should get a cow?

We have this problem with getting 2pint bottles into our bin at work....

I have started partially filling them with very hot water, putting lid on & then sloshing it around to get the plastic softer before pouring out water, squashing them, sticking lid back on & running under cold tap for a few seconds.
The plastic firms up in it's squashed state & seems to stay like it more readily than if it's not heated.

Yeah, a bit of a pain but it seems to work.

Although its more expensive to buy the milk in bags than in bottles in our local sainsburys

Get a milkie to deliver in glass bottles and he'll take the old ones away too (and they are recycled too obviously).

Call council and tell them not to be so stupid? We get big bags, as many as you want. We make like three a week.

Nice additional energy cost there!

Never had a problem with just squishing and re-fitting the top, or slicing them in half and inserting one half into the other when space is tight.

I suppose you could cut them in half and make a slit and then stack them kinda...

(btw, did you get my email about the saris bones?)

Get one of those tough shredders that can handle such things?

Find your local waste disposal centre, look for the 'plastic bottles' skip, put them in there. AWESOMENESS!!!

If they're anything like Shirnky-Dinks you can just put them in the oven 😆

Good if you can find one to deliver before you go to work, otherwise your pint is left outside all day.
