I know there are a few 'Crohnies' on here.

After what can only be described as two years of hell, I had a total proctocolectomy about 4 months ago. Its made the world of difference, and now I'm desperate to get back on the bike. However, my back passage is not 100% healed yet. Anybody on here had a similar op, and how long before you were back in the saddle? Any saddle recommendations?

PS: Shout out to all those dealing with Crohn's or UC - and a big shout to the NHS - you guys and girls are amazing.

Not of much help to OP, but may be relevant.

Not for Chrohns, but had permanent Ileostomy & proctocolectomy in the mid nineties (temp Ileostomy three years before that).

From memory, it was a while before I was back on the bike, they were still advising donut rings to sit on back then. Might be worth just checking how it feels - drop you saddle low so that you can lower yourself down taking the weight in your legs. First hint of ouchy, stop!

As for saddle once you’ve healed, shouldn’t be any different to what suited before - There shouldn’t be any change to the external bits that contact the saddle.

Any other questions about biking with a bag, please ask.

Are you a member of the IBD runners and riders Facebook group? They’re a really helpful group and respond and there’s bound to be someone who can advise or give some insight.

I've not got an ileostomy, but do have a urostomy, so also happy to discuss biking with bags. Life goes on, I've managed the highland trail 550, the Torino-Nice Rally and lots of other things with a bag so it's all possible. Good luck!

Thanks - I'd not heard of the FB group. Will check it out. Also, thanks for the offer for bag help. I'm just starting to get back to exercising, and have some support clothing arriving soon to test. I'm sure to have some questions soon. Aiming for an Alps trip next year, so that's to goal!

I am/was a sufferer but have most of my bowels. New drug is working good at the moment and they removed a section that had healed but had left scarring and a narrowing. Hats off for persevering and I hope you're feeling a lot more normal now. It can be pretty crap
