Can anyone drop me a hint how I can create a link to google maps satelite/hybrid images with a marker (arrow) somewhere in the middle of nowhere (meaning there's not a street name or postcode I can wack in) ?

You need a google account, then there's an option called my maps and you can put a marker wherever you want, then use the normal link option
