MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
We are looking to get an electric shower fitted. Any idea of the ballpark cost of this?
*sharp intake of breath and puts hand on hips*
"welll......."
£483.64, according to the invoice I've got in my hand right now.
A big chunk of that was fitting a new consumer unit to supply it, as I'm in a house with wiring dating back to the late Jurassic.
Has to be cheaper than the £750 estimate we were given off the first place we called.
is it an cooncil property?
if so, they may well have a department for that type of thing.
Housing association. They will let us do whatever we want to the place, but dont have any reasonably priced contractors.
Hmm. I see.
do the 3 quotes pick the middle one thing.
How lonhg is a piece of string?
Is the pipework near the location of the shower - mains fed not tank fed cold water supply?
How near is the fuse box / consumer unit? does the fuse box have enough capacity for an electric shower?
running a cable can be very time consuming thus expensive and so can running the pipework. Fitting a new consumer unit can be farily expensive as well
You could fit bath shower mixer taps instead which would be cheaper as less work involved. Just need to balance the pressure of the hot and cold with a pressure reducing valve. If you have a combi boiler fitted then you will get quite a drenching when you use it, instead of a dribble. 😀
I have both an electric shower and taps if you are interested. email in my profile
re: soops. Online I found BES in birmingham had pressure balancing valves with 1/2" BSP connections for about £40. Fitted one in line with my bath/shower mixer the other week. Makes a real difference when someone flushes the toilet - no more 50C surprises.
