Thought it was time to lighten things up in here, so;
So who's the coolest man alive?
Shaun Palmer is up there for me along with Joe calzage. Obamas pretty ****ing cool for a political type.
Honerable mentions to the fonz and petesgaff.
Can be for any reason or none, some blokes are just cool.

Rob Machado gets my vote as he is just effortlessly cool.

Laird Hamilton chases it a bit but is cool.

Was in a lift with Nicolas Anelka recently. I hate Chelsea almost as much as I hate the French, but the man just oozes cool. B@stard.

Also, Brandon Flowers. Thought he was just another handsome American singer until I saw his speech at some awards bash - very eloquent.

I was under the impression that he passed selection then was thrown out so might not have seen combat with them. He did see active service in the Oman though, which makes him considerably braver than me, and indeed I imagine most other users of this forum.

jack nicholson is still in the running for me. i think Brad Pitt, Bob Mortimer, Jarvis Cocker & Noel Fielding are pretty cool too.

If he was still alive it would have to be Steve McQueen!

If he passed the selection process then in my eyes he was 'in'. Hes also climbed and endured alot more than you and I. OR the real Walter Mittys mentioned above- Actors (who never play themselves).

My idea of cool is different to yours. When I was 8 my idea of cool was Arnold Schwartenegger then I realised hes actually not what I thought he was.

Cool to me are heroes, people who go above and beyond not cute to men/women, with a boyish face and nice haircut like Brad Pitt.

brakeswithface, thrown out during selection. Never badged.
Not sure of the extent of his experience in Oman (or Aden?) but his book "the feather men" was fiction passed off as fact.

Everyones take on "cool" is different.
Please note, I did not say inspirational or anything else.
Cool can mean anything from an attitude to a crap tat.
Inspirational to me would be Cpl Bryan Budd VC (who Fiennes is not fit to lace the boots of) but that doesn't make him cool (or indeed, alive).

John Waters. To paraphrase a tribute to one of his deceased friends, he was a punk when the word meant someone who got raped in prison.

its all about the baddies.

Alan Rickman
David Bowies pretty cool
Christopher Walken is effortlessly evil.

But without a shadow of a doubt, the coolest man alive HAS to be:

Gary Oldman

Agree on Steve McQueen - struggling to think of anyone alive that comes as close...

He also came out with this cracker:

"Racing is life. Anything before or after is just waiting."

Fiennes was never actually bagded he was seconded from Royal Scots Greys and specialized in demolition, he was later kicked out for taking dynamite and planning to blow up a dam with a friend, he served as a mercenary/advisor for the Sultanate of Oman providing information to the counter-insurgency service. Despite being a 3rd Baronet and a cad he did actually hack saw off some frostbiten fingers in his back garden shed and run 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 different continents. This would make him stubborn, be able to endure extreme hardship most people would surely have quit, but cool! I don't think so...

+ 1 action dan, I was going to post the same stuff.

He is the classic Brith excentric, considering his age and i believe he has some medical problems the Marathon running epic is awesome.

Believe he was caught cheating on the Beacons phase and binned which for someone who went onto tab everywhere it was a bit basic.

I can not think of any actor as cool just as I couldnt goo gibberish if a world rock star walked into the same room. I admit if Lance Armstrong walked into aroom, hes someone I respect a great deal- I would make a tit of myself saying hello. An actor though? Why do you think they are cool?!

Cool is a very material superficial and somewhat juvenile thing.
A jacket can be cool, a bloated tattooed drunken rockstar in a strip club is cool, a run on the whistler bike park is cool.
Armstrong is arguably awesome, talented etc but is he cool?
Peaty is cool, he drinks a lot of beer and rides bikes down mountains as fast as possible-cool.

Look up the definition of "cool" in the dictionary.

I think Lemmy may be cool only in the eyes of overgrown boys. Somehow (if sex appeal is part of cool) I suspect girls wouldn't put him in the cool category.

Although from at least one point of view, it's probably true to say that that is a cool photo.

Ok, underactive sweat glands and an attraction to cricket?
Besides the fact that IMHO, cricket is the most uncool sport in the world I'm still not feeling it. Each to his/her own though.
Nick Cave, yep, Lemmy definately.
Fiennes, still a nope from me.
But, what do I know? I think beckham's pretty cool.

Lance F'in Armstrong, are you retarded, or just don't have clue what being cool is about?!? He is probably one of the least cool people on the planet. Yes he's a good cyclist, but why should that make you automatically cool, he's about as cool as G.W.Bush (who's like his best mate, yes that's how 'cool' he is) Oh and his other cool mate is Robin Williams who part times as a Nanny, and that ain't cool.

Oh god no, i've just scrolled up Richar E Grant. I give up your all idiots.

Steve McQueen. End of.

Although I agree with a few posts on here....

Valentino Rossi - fo' sure. The GOAT.

...as a youth I thought Ian Brown, Tim Burgess and Shaun Ryder were the business.

Ranulph Fiennes is pretty cool.

Clint Eastwood, Robert De Niro.

Nathan Barley?

Do all the people who write Steve McQueen not realise he is dead? Or is it some religious cult thing going on?

Victor Ruggiero of the Slackers. Now he's cool. He has the coolest lyrics, the coolest attitude. He sings and plays keyboard/organ and the way he plays that live is beyond cool. He also plays guitar. Cool.
