hi there

just wondering how long people leave it before either contacting or giving up on a job. Should i follow up applications?

I sent my application via email if that helps, I'm reasonably new to this, having recently being made redundant from my first job from uni.

okay i only applied on thursday but believe I could do the job and worrying my application got caught in the spam filter. No deadline date was given, which is a tad frustrating

No harm in a quick call to see if the email reached the right person. Shows you are keen and gives you an opportunity to find out who the right person is (if you don't already know).

from the 'other side' as an inteviewer it's very difficult when you've got lots of applicants to sift through and interview where appropriate - we don't always manage to get back to everyone with a positive / negative (4000+ applications for 5 roles was one example) but there's no harm in chasing as long as you keep it brief. A polite phone-call just to check on the the status of things / that they've received your application I think would be seen as a positive, proactive step...

However - don't get too hung up on getting feedback. We recently had one guy who got distinctly creepy and insistent on his 'rights' to lots of feedback as to why he didn't get an interview (the post was actually filled before his cv was seen so there wasn't any to give). His last email was borderline abusive - daft really as he's certainly ruled himself out of any future job vacancies.

I don't think there is actually any 'right' from a candidate to feedback on failed applications

yeah i see what you mean woffle and many of the bigger places i am applying for give deadlines and say we can't reply to unsuccessful . . . which is cool as they have stated that.

I'm not really looking for feedback either I know my CV is good, but do appreciate if some one better qualified applies so be it.

I do like to know where i stand though, just good manners really.

Bad form giving people abuse for not giving them a job, but perhaps he'd applied to 70 - 80 places and was letting off some steam, still as you say he's buggered any future prospects up.

thanks for the info people
