if i press the print screen button where is it being saved to on windows vista

can't you get it back with <cntl v> or right-click like normal windows?

It's not saved, it's copied to clipboard, isn't it? Paste it into your required application. Or just search for your latest file.

It's in active memory (on the 'clipboard').

You need to paste it into something (eg. MS paint) before you can save it.

p.s. top tip: Alt + PrtScn will just copy the active window rather than the whole screen.
