Seems as if there are dirty rooms, flooding, poor security, dodgy building, failing walkways, not a good idea, etc etc.

So shouldnt we save a few quid and not send anyone there, Canada is now thinking of withdrawing along with the Scots and Welsh delaying their departures.

Also shouldnt the 2012 be down graded to basicly a school sports day to save us the taxpayer some cash.

Not sure boycotting. but it needs to be safe and comfortable for all involved.

Respect Phillips Idowu for saying he is not going for safety reasons rather then claiming he has a dodgy hamstring or something to get him off the hook.

Dare I say I think this represents doing business in/with India perfectly. Companies outsource to India not to take advantage of a mass resource of highly educated intelligent skilled workers, because there is only a small elite who actually match that description. The reality is that India does business poorly but cheaply and without care for environmental and personnel safety.

Where's the duke of Edinburgh when you need a humorous quote at such times?

I wasn't going anyway so I doubt anybody will notice I'm not there. In fact I didn't even realise they were on till a bridge or roof or something collapsing made the news, if not for that, I may have missed them completely.

As long as you tell all the other countries to bring a tea spoon, we will supply the eggs. And then get yourself into a classroom and LEARN TO SPELL.

Where's the duke of Edinburgh when you need a [s]humorous[/s] bigoted racist quote at such times?

I think for 2012 what we should do is for example, for the 100 mtrs, everybody run it viewed via webcam and at the same time in their own country, there could then be no moaning about the conditions being unfamiliar. Anybody who wants to see their country run could then just watch the one they are interested in on youtube, rather than have to watch some drunken mitmot from saskatchewan fall over in slow motion three times and miss the finish.

Rather than building a huge **** off complex of stadii, you could just launch a pile of officials to each participating country via Easyjet and save a s**tload of cash.

it's just an idea

Scotland has to go because they are obliged to as the next (2014) games will be Glasgow.
As a spokesman for the Indian games said "Dehli is in India what are people expecting, the people working on the games venue live in far worse conditions" what is the fuss all about.

The Queens husband is indeed a fine source of quotes, this is one from a few years ago (1999)
"It looks like it was put in by Indians." The Duke of Edinburgh after seeing a fusebox in Edinburgh.

He obviously meant some comment about cowboys but got a bit muddled.

It's the athletes I feel sorry for. They train hard to peak for this. For a lot of them it's the biggest competition they will ever get to, only chance to represent their country, a lot of the smaller countries athletes wouldn't make the grade for Olympics.

So no, we should be supportive not critical. We could offer to run them in Scotland...

I think holding the games in India in the first place is morally troubling. Immense poverty, slums, poor hygiene for many, yet the government spends billions on the games, bulldozing slums in the process, making thousands homeless.

yeah, I dont think Scotland should be casting the first stone on this one, given we are hosting the next one. At least the MTB circuit in Delhi can't be any worse than Cathkin Braes, with buckie-fuelled neds throwing things at the competitors.

Perhaps Suffolk County Council can outsource their residential and nursing needs there - would be cheap.

the athletes have trained hard for these games, so they should not miss it due to the village. Just go to Delhi and stop in hotels.

After the flashyness on Beijing (ironically), Sydney, Los Angeles etc it is a chance to see how the rest of the world lives.
But a country where people defecate in the street could make the marathon and the bike road race awkward.

It needs to be cancelled as there will be insufficient accommodation.

The atheletes village is a shambles and the organisers should be brought to account.

Im surprised that people are shocked. Just what were they expectting then ?

Anyone who has been to India will know what the country is like, expecting Western standards is expecting far too much.

Bit late now, MTFU and enter the games for the sake of the spectators and competitors.

Next time hold it somewhere that can do it properly.

Just pack a can of Cillit Bang and a duster and stop moaning about a bit of poo on the floor.

STOP PRESS - Apparently somebody's shower door was fitted the wrong way round. I unreservedly withdraw my earlier comment, and am now calling for the games to be cancelled.

having watched "cool runnings" twice now i believe i can answer this question with a greater knowledge base than most of STW....

if the jamaican bobsleigh team can practice their corners in a small bath and go on to win the adoration of the whole universe, then people shouldnt complain about conditions like dodgy shower doors.

i say they need to MTFU, and watch cool runnings.

There's plenty of money floating about in India too though, I'm sure they could have sorted it if they had the will.

I think saying 'well we have different standards' is a bit disingenuous - cleanliness and basic safety doesn't have to be that expensive surely?
