nice one, not heard of Milton Jones. I dunno why so much old repetitive base crap humour keeps getting out there when there are so many brilliant comedians like Daniel Kitson not in the mix. Pandering to the masses? maybe my point of view is skee whiff!
Ken Dodd left me & the missus with aching jaws we laughed that much (& for that long!)
Love mr bailey, eddie izzard, omid dajlili, even mcintire is funny if you've not seen the act before, but no one has had me in tears of laughter like Billy Connelly
David Mitchell is my personal fave.
Last person I found really funny was Rudi Lickwood who I saw at a Jongleurs 'On The Road' show.
On TV, I'm a fan of Bill Bailey, Rhod Gilbert, Reginald D Hunter and Tim Minchin.
I couldn't agree more RS...
My favourite humour and the brand that I generally use myself is of where the humour is based on observation of the self..
I agree that when it's turned outwards it's kinda open to misinterpretation..
I think the point that I was trying to make.. for some unknown reason.. (probably way past bed-time when I made it) is that mocking some-ones beliefs or choices or actions is just as inflammatory and insulting as (if not more so than) mocking the length of their legs.. even if it does take slightly more cognitive thought to create the gag..
but if you're mocking the way someone conducts themselves you're just really being an arrogant c**t surely? and by definition you're mocking their intelligence.. which is something that you yourself have already condemned in an earlier post..
BTW.. it has nothing to do with the fact that I'm incredibly physically attractive but thick as pigsh*t..
Michael McIntyre rules ok? (even though I would have considered him an annoying squeaky little gheyboy if my other half hadn't opened my eyes to his genius)
Now that I've had time to think about it.. maybe we just shouldn't laugh at anything at all... in case it upsets someone..
edit.. My GF has just enlightened me regarding the Boyle/downs syndrome controversy that happened recently..
I apologise if I have caused offence with my defence of Frankie Boyle.
I'm off out for a ride.. maybe also gonna use this spade that I'm digging this hole with to build some trails..
laters everybody peeps.
I went to see Daniel Kitson last year at the HOB in Forest Hill during his preparations for the Edinburgh festival. It was great and I loved it. He's very funny.
Funniest people ever: Peter Cook, Richard Prior. Rest are a poor imitation.
seen hicks in 92' neptune theatre ,liverpool ..magical ...and by the way if you are in advertising , go kill yourself !
Eddie Izzard and Stewart Lee.
+1 for Ken Dodd.
Took my mum to see him about 10 years ago in Manchester.
Wasn't expecting much, but the git just wears you down. About three hours in I was weeping with laughter at the sheer stupidity of it all.
The man lives to make people laugh. Genius.
Bernard Manning lived opposite our house in Blackley when I was a kid, used to give us kids 50p to pop to the shop for a pint of milk, when milk was about 10p a pint.
His club was half a mile down the road and I saw him live a couple of times when I was younger. He was actually really funny when he wasn't being offensive. Got very bitter later on though.
He really did do a lot for charity as well, but I don't like to talk about it........... 🙂
Personal favourites are Spike Milligan, Stan and Ollie, Richard Prior, Bill Hicks, Andy Kaufman, Ronnie Barker, Billy Connolly, Les Dawson, Victoria Wood, Joyce Grenfell, Barry Cryer, Kenneth Williams, too many to list really.
Dara was good ... long set too, no support and did over two hours
Oh joy - had tickets with nice comfy seats (Buxton Opera House) but now can't make it. Sold them to a mate and bought standing at the back tickets at the Lowry (all they had left). He'd better be bloody good.
Ronnie Ancona 🙂
Ronnie Ancona?
Ding, and indeed, dong.
Tommy Cooper
I saw Smug Roberts a while back and he was bloody hilarious.
In the last couple of years I've seen Dara O Briain twice, Frankie Boyle twice (but never again), Jimmy Carr, Russell Howard, Ed Byrne, and Lee Mack (twice).
Lee Mack was the funniest, closely followed by Dara.
Richard Herring has been my comedy hero since I was about 11 and is currently on top of his game - it really is great to see.
I have to admit though, it's been a long time since I laughed as much as I did when at the Crucible last year listening to Daniel Kitson talk about his reaction whenever he hears the word 'latte'.
Bill Bailey.Rhod Gilbert is also very good.
for his unique style it has to be Ross Noble not everyones cup of tea though, seen him many times and he can be hot and cold but if you catch him on a good night he is genius.
i saw him in the dublin olympia many years ago and he just went off on one, didnt use his material for that night and just went off on a 2 hour ramble and rant.
he really doesnt have a set routine like 90% of comedians, if you saw him on his tv show when he was touring oz it was a prime example of him just turning up (with sometimes minutes to spare before the show starts) and doing his thing and ranting about what he had seen that day so every show was a bit different. not many comedians can do that.
Billy Connelly
No one else comes close.
Jerry Sadowitz would eat Frankie Boyle and all the rest for breakfast.
As for Billy Connoly he went out of date 30 years ago and has been flogging the same dead horse ever since.
I watched frankie boyle last night. He was OK but I thought the warm up act (a canadian called craig campbell) was funnier.
um gordon brown , most of the conservtives , and all of the lib dems , they all make me laff soooo much.
