Does Karl Pilkington count as a comedian? Hilarious on the Gervais podcasts.

Favourite standups are Peter Kay, Ricky Gervais (seems that he's either love or hate) and Michael McIntyre. Can't stand the latter for too long due to his voice though!

I like Frankie Boyle's "shock value" jokes as well. Same goes for Jimmy Carr.

Bill Bailey's a fave at the moment... Except that bird watching show he does, that just makes me cringe.

Lenny Bruce and Daniel Kitson is way too low imo. Bill Hicks should be right up there and Chris Morris and Peter Cook and Richard Pryor.

It's impossible list really!

Richard Herring is currently the top live standup at the mo (IMHO). Seen his Hitler Moustache show - pure genius - Bill Hicks would be proud!

Don't like many modern comics - Frankie Boyle is the Bernard Manning for the new generation. He's the attention seeking kid from school who used to stand up in class and swear loudly.
That's his entire act. As for Jimmy Carr.........

Mocking people for things they have no control over (gender, sexuality, looks, disablity, race, intelligence) isn't funny. It's what children do.
And no, it's not post modern or ironic - it just legitimises crass stupidity.

Fart jokes on the other hand....

Bill Hicks. The being pulled over by the cops while on LSD scene literally had me choking.

Jasper carrot was good too.

you know what RS...?
I actually wouldn't put frankie boyle into the 'mocking affliction' category of comedian.. I haven't actually ever noticed him to use that kind of cheap humour..
that's deffo down to some of the other relics that are listed here..

I think his mildly repulsive and vividly descriptive wit is his strength..

Kevevs,

At the moment:
Bill Bailey, Milton Jones, Stewart Lee, Tim Minchin, Armstrong & Miller, Mitchell & Webb, Mark Steel, Shazia Mirza, Stewart Francis, Jeremy Hardy, Lucy Porter, Sarah Millican, Reginald D Hunter, Chris Morris, Tim Vine, just off the top of my head.

Anyone with a bit of intelligence who doesn't feel the need to mock someone because of what they are, as opposed to what they choose to do or believe.

I'm not 100% sure that one is any more or less legitimate than the other..

yunki,

I just think that laughing at someone because of their looks, shape, disability, colour, race, gender etc is really lazy humour.
It's just a manifestation of fear and ignorance, a way of excluding those who are different or don't conform to the narrow definition of what the observer believes to be the norm.
It panders to the basest and most unlikeable traits of humanity.

BTW, it has nothing to do with the fact that I am short, fat AND ugly. 🙂
