What's the best coding to learn as a kid?
Whichever language others around you are learning. Learning is far more fun as a group.

Once you're past scratch, python is probably the easiest to jump into
Nephew uses Python and Scratch. And a big book but the name evades me - I’ll check next time I see him. Had a Raspberry pi and seems to keep him very happy!

For a kid I'd say something that gives immediate feedback (I'm assuming younger than say 11 here). As @tor5 says Python seems the learning language du jour but it's not one I've looked at myself.
Younger lad (16) uses Lua, but that's mainly because he writes stuff for Roblox. I guess Python is pretty handy generally. If they've got an appetite for it, they can easily switch from one to another though. Starting early is probably key...
What age?
my kids (5 & 8) both go to coding club. They generally use Scratch and a variety of Scratch-like languages (Blockly etc). Eldest has done a little Python too - there are some good apps that let you write in Scratch then see it in Python.
was with a mate in the pub last night and his son is on the spectrum* but starting to show an interest, I said I'd ask the font of all knowledge.
* aren't all programmers 😉
his son is on the spectrum
Sinclair BASIC it is then.

I go with the whatever others are using. If there is a local group goo with that. What language you use is not important as once you have the mode set switching languages becomes easy.
