Having a little trouble clearing my browser history... using Mozilla 3.6 I go into Tools and select 'Clear Recent History', ask it to clear everything, it pops up with a mesage, do you really want to do this? yep I say, and off it goes...

Trouble is, when I go to the browser address bar and start to type a url, lo and behold it tries to auto-complete it for me... I don't want this, I want all my url history gone, especially as it keeps bringing up the url of a 'gentleman's leisure' site every time a url starts with 'T' 😳 👿

How can I totally clear all my internet browsing history? Am I missing something?

cheers 🙂

CCleaner is your friend...

Download and install CCleaner, then let it run...

Should clean out your computer of all the crap you no longer need/want/didn't know you had in the first place!

Made sure "Browsing and Download History" is selected in the Clear Recent History "details" bit ?

And time range = Everything

yep, checked all that. when I click the dropdown arrow on the address bar, there's nothing in there, most visited is all empty... so there's no history showing, but when you type in a url, if it starts with 'T' bang, there's the offending url again... maybe it's a bug from the site?

Go in and manually clear cookies and cache. Quit. Restart. Then Google Chrome Incognito mode is your friend!

My betting is on Tube 8. Actually, I think it's the cache you need to clear. The IT geeks are your real friends here though.

Go to search all files, type in cookies. Once there, select all by dragging over all, right click and delete. It will tell you it can't clear an index file, that is fine, it's the cookies you want gone.

I give up, I've tried everything suggested above and it's still there... I reckon it's some sort of bug from the site?

I think I'll just uninstall/reinstall Firefox...

EDIT: actually... 😳 somehow it was bookmarked, hidden away in a sub-folder, I swear I never did this... wouldn't be so silly really 🙂

ah well, have deleted the bookmark and it's all sorted now... thanks chaps 🙂

while we are sharing:

imagine the scene I am sat at the inlaws having sunday lunch, all the family round the table.

younger brother in law still lives at home.

previous to sitting down to dinner the step father in law had asked me how to view browsing history...

Mid meal he checks his email at the pc which is adjacent to the dining table.

he exclaims loudly "anyone know what a site called grannytranny.com would be doing on my computer?"

all eyes turn to the younger brotherinlaw who goes bright red and excuses himself from the table

Id suggest having a seperate browser tucked away in an inocuous looking folder somewhere that others wouldnt bother delving into, save that sort of thing happening in future.

I believe Google Chrome has a 'stealth' mode. 🙂

The linux version of firefox allows you to have multiple profiles (eg "work", "home"). You can then launch firefox with the appropriate profile. If you don't specify one it'll use the default. I'd assume the windows version has something similar.

firefox now has private browsing

ctrl+shift+p and it will not remember any history/form detail/cookies/downloads/cache

it even remembers your tabs when you come out of private mode

it's so you can buy nice presents for your other half without them knowing

Of course it is.

I'm impressed at the IT knowledge on here - so many of you knowing about obscure features of browsers most people will never need to use.
