We lent our new ish bell tent to some friends and they have only just opened it up to dry it today after last weekend which was wet.

It now has mildew on it so we need a way to clean it off and as I understand it kill the mildew spores so it doesn’t get any worse.

I am still waiting for a picture or to go and see it tonight to see how bad it is, they will do the right thing by us to get it back to a decent condition but if people have experience of a technique I am happy to do the cleaning.

Have a look on UKCampsite - there's a number of threads relating to this.

It's getting any spores removed that's the key or it'll just come back every time ti gets wet.

Do not use bleach or Milton, which is bleach and will just bleach the mildew anyway. Best is to try to wipe off the mildew with a damp cloth so as not to spread and inhale the spores. If that doesn't work, try scrubbing wet with detergent. If you're lucky the mildew won't have discoloured the fabric and will come off cleanly.

HG do a mould / mildew removal kit. Contains potassium permanganate and citric acid. Has worked on various things for me before. Test on a small area first or you may turn everything purpley brown.

Citric acid sounds like a good idea, acidic enough to kill the mould but not strong enough to damage the fabric.
