Why should only premier members get to view classic weekender results.

If you are not a Premier User but you were at the event then email your full name and rider number to lisa@singletrackworld.com and she will send you back a voucher code that you can use to view the results and also try all our Premier Perks including full access to our Mag Archive and all our other published Premier Stories.

It's only £2 a month if the results are that important to you 🙄

Ha Ha fourbanger i wasn't racing but a mate was, i just wanted to see how he did. i just don't think it's right having to pay for the right to see results. Can you imagine having to pay to see all results from every sport, not good promotion if you ask me...

Hmmm must say I agree, that's pretty off IMO!

To be honest I keep meaning to sign up, but I don't like the fact you have to be a premier member to comment on things, or see articles in their entirety etc, I never read articles now, just get them from other sites, which I suspect is specifically what they're trying to avoid 😕

Exactly watsontony lots of spectators who were there will want to see how friends or family did, and are not necessarily mountain bikers themselves so would not want to subscribe.

Honestly, I've not found I missed much from the site. I pay so I can get the mag online and to support the forum but the articles on the site I wouldn't be paying for.

News stories are free. Content that we produce ourselves at considerable cost, like reviews and database driven results or extra photo galleries, are a subscriber benefit since it is those users who pay us to produce it. All riders at the event can see the results - after all, they paid us money to ride at the event.

Hey, I'm sorry you feel you are being short changed (ironic really) but what we do is expensive and costs money. £2 for access to our entire back catalog of over 10 years of hard work is an absolute bargain is it not?
(almost 40p of that goes to the VAT man do we only net a little over £1.60)

Content is expensive to produce - advertising doesn't cover it. It doesn't come close.

Oh, and the weekender is a not for profit event.

Hey Mark you say "the weekender is a not for profit event" however you want £2 off me to see the results?! i'm not arguing about the premier membership itself, i understand how much hard work you guys do, i used to be a member myself. Im just saying results should be there for everyone not just a select few.

So everyone that entered gets to see the results, and also gets a free trial of premium membership? Sounds good to me. My mate goes to virgin gym, if I want to see how what he benches I've either got to ask him or join the gym, I don't expect virgin gym to email his stats each week. If you want to know how your mate got on, ask him!

And everyone who paid their entry fee gets to see the results.

The costs of staffing at the weekender and after in the production and processing of the results (which have all been entered into a searchable database) were paid for by Singletrack. If we charged out the wages of staff to the event it would run at a considerable loss of many thousands. But we don't do that. Staff are paid who work on the event during the week running up to it and staff at the event are given paid leave for their time at the event. As a result we can run the event and pay Rossendale Mountain Rescue over £1000.

£2 / month is a bargain in my opinion.

As a sometimes Marshall on the event it appears a little fickle that the results are not posted for the wider public.

I wouldn't mind knowing how well folk did

Sorry Stevie but if it's the concept of not paying and getting nothing in return that we are arguing then I think it's you that doesn't get it.

I understand your argument. I just disagree with it.

If you marshalled the event we are more than happy to give you a voucher so you can see them. Just email Lisa and she'll tick you off our list of marshalls and email you a voucher code.

I'm with Mark, otherwise build a bridge and get over it, you've had the reason nowt else to debate.

Mark

See your point, but why spend all your time creating a searchable web page for results when there is one that links up to most photographers.

I wasn't there (am a P member) but was hoping to see who won what, it just looks like a list of entries so far.

I have marshalled for all the previous events and even won a 12 month subscription last year

Couldn't Marshall this year as I was marshalling at a local festival on edgeside on the Saturday and on the PMBA stand on the Sunday.

Clearly the decision has been made, in my view it could have been used as an opportunity to both publicise what is always a superb event and attract more for next year. Also posting it on all the contributors sites would also publicise the event.

Mind you I am a marketing ;hore !

Mark, I hear what you're saying, but this is the first event of anykind I've done where you have to pay to see the results.

How can an event called "Shimano Singletrack Weekender" not be a for profit event?
It's simple advertising at the lowest level and relationship building marketing at a slightly higher level.

Another view. Maybe those who paid like to see the results freely available for posterity/bragging rights?

Good topic this however following the age old advice from flippinheckler, I best go and 'build that bridge'. Not before I make like a tree and leave...or make like a drum and beat it. Perhaps make like a banana and split! Night all...
