Any recommendations or kits to avoid?

Our little on is dead keen to be helping out with drills, screwdrivers, pointy things and the biggest favourite is the tape measure!

As we have a bit more space now I'm tempted to go for a full on workbench but a tool box that can be carried round might be more suitable - you just get a fair bit more for your money on a workbench...

Health and Safety gone mad. When I was a kid my parents bought me a toolkit. It looked like this, endless opportunities for severed digits, deep lacerations etc....

Not yet. Maybe she can have some sharp things for her second birthday...

ha ha I had one of those sharp toolsets, still remember the clap around the ear I got for cutting into the kitchen table. 😁

im sure that's where my tinnitus came from.

We had that placcy one. Was alright. Boy liked it, speshly the drill.

Saw came in useful occasionally

We had that placcy one. Was  a pain in the tits because all those plastic nuts and bolts got scattered all over the house and they really hurt when you stand on them in bare feet.. Boy liked it, speshly the drill.

FTFY

That's the way - start 'em young. Mine have progressed a bit now...

Start 'em young! My nephew wanted a decent, new (to him) bike so I bought him one and stripped it down (to check stuff was ok) and he had to rebuild it as part of the deal 🙂 Obviously I checked nothing was going to spang off and hit him in the face before he rode it, although that would've been a valuable life lesson...

I offered to buy my 5yo nephew one decent, proper tool for each birthday and Christmas so that by the time he reached adulthood he'd have a decent set of tools.  Alas this, what I considered a thoughtful and practical idea, was declined by my sister who wanted him to have a toy one NOW!

I wouldn't go near the green bosch stuff, that's for B&Q and the likes. The blue bosch is the pro line and much better.

But

Health and Safety gone mad. When I was a kid my parents bought me a toolkit. It looked like this, endless opportunities for severed digits, deep lacerations etc….

this.

Yep - I was about 8 when I got my own sheath knife (I thought I was too old for crappy 'toy' penknives). Managed not to kill myself to death with it.
