The photos at the top of the page on the chat and bike forums. Mebbe it's just me, but I'm finding it mildly irritating to have to scroll past these every time to get to the list of threads. It's fine on a laptop, but it's a good few swipes with my fat thumbs on the phone! That saddle, cassette, mech etc are starting get old after my umpteenth visit to the site! Yeah yeah, very much first world problems I know!

I do follow STW on insta btw!

I'm not seeing any of that on Chrome on laptop or phone.

I emailed the tech team at STW about it yesterday, since I assumed it was a bug. No reply.

I get it on Android. Don't use Instagram and not interested.

This is what I see when I visit the site, there are six of these images to scroll past before I see the list of threads. Chrome on an Android phone.  Much less obtrusive on my Chromebook and PC.

Weird, this is all I get. Chrome on Android also.

Edit: just gone into Chat forum and I get the same as you. I always view the Overview forum though and thats fine.

Yeah fine on the laptop, but wouldn't say no to them being smaller on the phone.

Yeah it's annoying having to scroll past all the big square photos. Plus I'm not going back to Instagram. I don't need the depression it causes.

Good idea, clunky implementation as per.

yeah I think it works fine on desktop, I'm just not sure on the mobile layout! Could make the images a bit smaller? like a 2x2 grid instead of taking 100% width?

Yep, I saw it the other day - very irritating.

NB Just search for Instagram blocker plugin for your browser....

Just use the Overview list of topics rather than the Bike or Chat pages. They're not on the overview (yet) 🙂

You are right. It takes up way too much space on mobile. We'll fix that today.

Wow, didn't expect my trivial whinge to be acted on that quickly (if at all TBH)! Credit where it's due, many thanks Mark!

But why Instagram in the first place? The users it’s being advertised to are already on singletrackworld.com. If this content is something you want us to look at, you could host it on here still use photo links. Of course I’m fine with STW having insta to get noticed and push views to the site, but what’s in it for STW to push traffic the other way?

Brand awareness?

Who knows. I've never understood Instagram anyway. When I looked at it, it seemed to be a platform for making otherwise decent photos look crap.

But why Instagram in the first place?

I assumed it's because they're having to rebuild that audience after their account got hacked, and getting forum visitors to have a look seemed like a relatively easy win.

I don't mind too much as I like pretty pictures of bikes in general. Great that they're improving it so quickly though.

@soundninjauk has it

our old 50k followers were valuable to us for content discovery and also helps in our media presentation to brands who then spend marketing money with us. Losing that audience has a real effect on the business and so we want to rebuild it as quickly as we can. Lost of people over here followed us over there and this is a way of reminding/encouraging them to go and click follow on our new account.
Anyway, I've made a couple of changes that should help you guys not have it in your face quite so much.
