I'm trying to learn Spanish and was interested in the Rosetta Stone course, but it's £479 if you purchase it through the official channels.
Does anyone know of any similar, but less expensive interactive/immersion computer based courses?
I don't know if you are really set on computer systems, but Michel Thomas is excellent for getting your basics sorted.
I used it for Spanish, and also for Portuguese, but it is not so good for me as I am trying to learn Brazilian Portuguese and it also lacks the vocabulary units.
+1 for michel thomas
and also coffee break spanish podcasts
Thanks for the Michel Thomas recommendation(s).
It seems to be the subject of universal praise and the basic/foundation course is half price on Amazon (and less than one tenth of Rosetta Stone!), purchase made.
Muy bien etc etc!
Rosetta stone from less official channels?
You probably need to supplement Michel Thomas with something along the lines of Hugo Spanish in 3 Months to help increase your vocabulary and reading and writing skills, but as a first course it is excellent.

Rosetta stone from less official channels
I was tempted, but you're still talking a couple of hundred quid and there seem to be a lot of scams out there...the Latin American Spanish course getting sent to you despite ordering the Spanish Spanish one, incomplete sets, software that won't load etc etc
