I had a multicar policy with Admiral. I blew up one car and replaced it with a pick up. They won't cover the pick up as it counts as a commercial vehicle even though the replacement model counts as a 'lifestyle' vehicle.
I have been quote over £500 for the pick up valued at £3K with 12 years no claims. That seems steep. Anyone know of a good place to try.
Also, now I only have one car I need to change the insurance on that too. Any recommendations for cheap insurance for a Group 20 car?
Try http://www.skyinsurance.co.uk/ - they did me a *very* good policy on a very modified (normally group 17) car (actually cheaper than anyone else would do even if the car was standard) and also offered to cover a commercial style van as a second car.
My renewal was due at the beginning of the week, last week I played around the internet quotes and came up with €350 fully comp. My current insurers, Direct Line, want €580 until I told them about the €350, I'm now paying €390 with Direct Line, I couldn't be arsed with the hassle of changing for the sake of €40. Direct Line didn't even ask for evidence.
Play them, see if you can get away with telling them you've had a quote for 300 quid and see what happens.
don - Admiral won't touch the pick up and are arses to deal with so all quotes will be from new agents. the £500 was just from the first I phoned.
heard of confused.com etc?
BigBikeBash - Memberdon - Admiral won't touch the pick up and are arses to deal with so all quotes will be from new agents. the £500 was just from the first I phoned.
Surely it's a buyer's market though? The price I gave could have been supported with evidence but it wasn't asked for.
Go to another insurer and ask for a quote, when they give you the figure, have a sharp intake of breath and say really! So and so have quoted 30% less, and see what happens. Or have they really got you by the cobblers?
if you go onto a comparethemarket etc get you cheapest quote then if you look in the back of the auto trader look at the back and there is one which guarantees to beat any quote although you do have to insure it as a van/commercial as i am 18 and i only pay £450 a year for a 5k pickup fully comp
confused.com is rubbish for pickup insurance, i think it was compare the market i used to get mine, but i do pay double what i was paying on my T4, but still not too bad, 600 a year. its because they are classed as commercial, but most i have seen about are used as everyday cars.
confused.com were crap when i tried to insure the van i have. direct line ( of all people )came out the best. i rang them as i wanted sd&p but also class 1 business, and they said all that was included - they assume you want it for business use but throw in sd&p cover too.
wrt your class 20 car, you don't say what it is, but if there is an owner's club, get on board. i was insuring my 4L V8 for about 350 quid FC by the end of my time with the specialist insurer through the club, which included track use ( and cover up to 7.5k for that - the rest could always be rebuilt! ). they also didn't get snotty about applying NCD to that policy, even though they knew i had another car i was using that for too.
There's specialist insrunce people like Adrian Flux who should be able to do it, in fact a quick Google finds this

You DID Google "pick up insurance" I assume? 😉
Why Google when you have STW?
I started Googling for Pick-up specialists but got distracted by the pick up girls ...
LOL! 😀
