...and don't go isn't helpful!
Heading there this weekend for a mate's birthday. Its a couple of years since I was last there, so any advice on what's good and what to avoid would be welcome.

Do you mean Whinfell Geoff ?
ooops yep -whinfell freudian slip / wishful thinking on my part 😳
Off there for a week at the start of June. We went there at the same time last year and had a great time.
Advice:
- don't bother with the nature photography "course" unless you are a real beginner. Easy enough to walk to the hides and take photos yourself. Tons of red squirrels, pheasant, woodpecker etc
- take your own food and cook in the evenings rather than going out. The restaurants are a bit pricey.
- take bikes if you want but expect family pootling, not epic trails.
- if there are any activities you really want to do then book them online now as some do get sold out.
- the pool is free/included. If you are on a budget then tire the kids out there.
Thee tree trekking is good fun, it's not Go Ape but still worth doing. Don't buy the logs in the shop to burn on the fire or the disposable bbqs, they are both v v bad.
Really enjoyed the paintballing as well. Some friends did the quad biking but said it was a bit lame.
Enjoy!
Im there now

It is all mainly for kids.
+1 for Tree Trekking. The high ropes outward bound climbing activity is worth a punt too. Quite tricky to stand on a wobbly pizza box 40' up.
The restaurants have improved of late and most of the accommodation has been modernised. Better for families than a mate's birthday, unless he likes flumes and wave machines...

We both have young families, so I'm hoping the kids are going to like it.
Just had a horrible flashback to the high ropes, totally forgot about climbing up that bloody tall pole!
Take plenty of peanuts for the squirrels and plenty of birdseed for "guess what". Stavro Jr. enjoyed the Hawk Walk and I p*ssed off over to Whinlatter to do the Altura trail.
Tek yer bike down U****ck Pike.
Well that was quite good actually. Kids did loads, we all went in the pool, did the flumes, junior 1 crashed one of their quad bikes and junior 2 face planted into the bedside cabinet - trip to Penrith drop in centre for butterfly stitched and child abuse questioning. Nice to get to work for a rest 🙂
junior 2 face planted into the bedside cabinet
Xtreme! Didn't realise furniture surfing was an activity on offer 😉
