Hey guys sorry for the boring content of this thread, I tried to find the old one but after 20 hours of driving im pretty baked and just wanted a quick answer.

Silly me got caught doing 85ish in an 80 on the french motorway and the camera flashed me.

I can remember hearing that I might not actually have to pay the fine when it comes over? any more news on this or have laws changed.

thanks
al

The tracking of speed camera fines is getting better all the time. Not worth asking until you get a bill though is it?

Is that what that flash is on the Autoroutes? 😉

There's usually a sign telling you it's coming up - did you miss it?
We have a good few people in the office that drive through France most months & the general opinion is that you'll never hear any thing else

99% likelihood that you'll be fine.

Laggingbehind - he didn't ask you to comment on the acceptibility or otherwise of speeding, did he? Climb off your soapbox.

..........& think yourself lucky you weren't in the UK as that would be points at least...

that % over the limit in the UK wouldn't normally result in anything

The French %'s over are much more strict than in the UK. They have a very strict formula of 5% or 5kph, whichever is higher, so in an 80 limit you'd get done at anything above 85.

They are very firm with it, we've been done at 138 in a 130, which is just 0.5kph over their allowed limit (130+5%=137.5!).

I know, I was responding to him claiming that the OP would get points in the UK for that

ah that explains why it flashed, was quite shocked really, no worries then, probably averaged 60 for the rest of the journey due to the worlds worst rain, fog and lack of decent roads in the UK! has anyone else noticed how there are barely any cat eyes on the m25?

JEEBUS!

crack whore party dates tbc

Back in 86 I got done for 213kph in a 130 limit

The cop stood in the middle of the road with his hand raised, blowing his whistle - I was sat on the tank by the time I stopped it 🙂

anyway, ended up have to pay 900FF [~£100] which was more than a week's wages for me then
We got escorted to the police barracks & had to go before the magistrate to apologise.

You will probably be fine. I have been flashed a few times in various vehicles and never heard anything back.

Phew.
I was flashed last week in Brittany which was bad enough.
Last week by Britney would have been awful.

I got done at a similar speed and nothing came of it. My mum lives in france and she told me that a ticket will be despatched automatically, if it ever makes its way to me, ignore it and the worst that will happen is they will give me a years ban in france for not showing up to court. However, if you get pulled up by a gendarme after this they will fine you more.

Not sure how reliable this is, but i never got a ticket sent to me?

@OP, I hope it was not recorded delivery and you signed for it.

If it was plain, then ignore it and watch what you sign for.
They will send letters galore you can ignore and then this shoddy U.K. company will buy the fine and send threatening letters to you which you ignore.

Check how long they need by law to send a letter to you by recorded delivery and how long till they forget.

Germany is 6 months, Italy 360 days-just don't sign or acknowledge or visit Italy for a 2 yrs.

France-well Google it and if you visit or drive there you risk getting stopped and pay fine.

Not going to France for a few yrs? forget the fine and don't sign any letters.

Signed? you're stuffed and the fine goes up if you don't pay sometimes.

Don't speed and don't drive in Italy Florance like I ****ing did.

I hope £60 was just a contribution to that party rather than the total budget!

Dont worry the £60 was just for champers for the tutes, I've taken out a 2nd credit card to pay for the actual celebration party. dates still tbc.

Frank - I think it'll go to the mothers house, if she signs for it and not me is that still a bumder?

We set shed loads of them off on the way to and from Morzine recently and on the way to Alp D'Huez in January. Not heard a dicky bird and we were way over the limit in percentage terms 😉

As above, they are well signposted and easy to spot though.
