So I've searched the Internet and can't find a definitive no to thus question. I want to sell my car, so I can use the money to buy a different one. The gap inbetween where I'm sans car, how can I keep hold of my ncb to use on next car?
I've only ever traded in up to now so just don't know.
I think there is a period after a policy lapses and a new one starts where you keep your NCB, maybe 2 years but someone more knowledgeable may be able to help here.
With most insurers, under usual circumstances, your NCB is valid for up to 2 years, some insurers allow 3 years depending on circumstances. Given everything that is currently going on with the pandemic etc. again some insurers are modifying their normal rules. This is certainly how rules are applied on the policies we sell.
Edit... Meant to add if you are selling but intending to replace the car, again most insurers allow a short period of time to do so, effectively you have a policy with no vehicle on cover, until you add the new car on to the policy replacing the old car.
Again, under normal rules, we'd allow 14 days for this, but at the moment thats been extended to 56 days.
Superb replies dudes thank you. I will obviously call them before I make a move.
As above, check but its usually 2 years before NCB is zeroed.
Yep, 2 years is the norm. If you're going to have a longer gap than that and have another vehicle, then you could take year-about in being the lead driver on that policy - that way you can keep two sets of NCB on the go.
