I paid £841.98 to insure my Mercedes with 30k mileage (including 15k business use) and still have 61 days left on my policy.
As I've just got a company vehicle I contacted them to ask if I would be due anything back should I change my policy to social use only with a maximum of 1000 miles (I'll keep the car at my other place and use it on the odd weekend when I'm there).
They told me "as the policy is over 8 months into its term there is no discount offered"
and went on to say "In our terms of business, in the 'what you pay section' it says in addition to the premiums charged or returned by the insurers we do charge up to 20% of the premium plus £25.00 for any additional or RETURN premium"
I advised her that I had no record of those 'terms of business' nor had I knowingly agreed to such, she said she'd send me a copy.
she said "I've just checked and there isn't anything due back"
I asked "how much would it be to insure me for 1000 miles on a social only policy for 61 days, would here be a cost assuming I was otherwise uninsured?", "yes" was her obvious reply, "would it cost me more to have 61 days with mixed business & social mileage with a limit of 10k miles?" I asked. "yes" again was her obvious reply.
Now I understand that insurance companies have to take risks, but hypothetically speaking, on an assumed risk basis:
1) I've already driven about 20k both business & pleasure.
2) I'm now suggesting that I reduce the risk to 1000 miles (a reduction of 10k from the original policy) and remove all business use restricting it to social use only.
OK its not going to be a million pounds but its the bloody principle of it, I took care not to make a claim during those 12 months (less 61 days).
I dunno, doesn't seem right to me.

Shouldn't you let the butler worry about these kind of details ? Or is he at your apartment in Paris ?
It's an admin charge to dissuade folk from changing their minds and their policies too often. Doesn't sound too bad TBH
Sounds pretty standard.
Aviva took £50 'admin fee' when I cancelled the policy half way through the year due to selling the car, daylight robbery! :/
Car Insurance - are they scamming me?
of course they are......
of course they are...
