This is a film I remember from childhood; for some reason it stuck in my memory but I can't remember what it's called and it's not a film I've come across since. Seeing Solaris lastnight reminded me of it hence the question.

The basic premise is of astronauts making trips to the dark side of the moon and then coming back disturbed or deranged and then more missions being sent to try and find out what is causing this. The film also featured a lot of space ships crashing and I distinctly remember that at the end of the film, one of the astronauts is bandaged and wheelchair bound as a result. I have a picture in my mind of one of the spaceships in the film and its quite stylistic, perhaps it was also being launched off of a 45 degree ramp?

It’s not much to go on so big kudos points for anyone who gets it.

Doppleganger does ring a bell. Did it have the guy driving on the wrong side of the road and not know where the lightswitch was?

years since i've seen it, but it does have some wrong side of the road driving (they land on a mirror image earth).
Also has a few ship crashes if i remeber correctly and theres someone at the end in a hospital which is why i reckoned it might be the OP's film.

Amazing - just checked out 'Journey to the far side of the sun' on Youtube and it is indeed the film. I think I was about six when I saw it. It made an impression on me; no idea why, but it's funny the way the detais are sort of there but mixed up - like it being the sun they travel behind and how the odd things that happen is the whole reversed planet idea.

Thanks guys.
