Agree with you both - initially, there has to be a (physical) attraction, otherwise why bother, but (in my experience) there has to be something else, (be it intelligence or whatever) which whilst not replacing the attraction, enhances it over time.

I reckon someone can be beautiful but stupid. Afterall, you will form a judgement on whether someone is beautiful without necessarily hearing them speak or reading anything they've written. What you're talking about is something different to beauty in a classical sense, something perhaps captured by the ghastly word "attractiveness". I agree that beauty without intelligence is not very attractive. 🙂
