As above really - can I use the charger from my GPS on my GoPro, for instance - both mini USB.
Don't want to fry anything but would assume USB power would always be the same voltage etc? Was never good at physics. 🙂
Thanks.
I mix and match Memory Map, Garmin and Tom Tom 240v, 12v and PC USB chargers.
They all work.
yep 🙂
They're all 5v, but the amperage output may vary, max is 1a, but some chargers may only put out 0.5A. If any of the devices need higher amps ( such as iPhone), then it might not charge.
Some devices like the HTC Desire (and possibly the iPhone) will monitor two of the pins in the USB lead. If its a computer lead two of the pins are open circuit and the device will restrict charging to around 0.5 amps so it doesn't fry the PC's USB boards. If its a mains charger (or a half decent car charger) then the two pins will be looped, and the device will know it can charge at the full 1 amp. (I think I've got that the right way round!) The HTC desire on a cheap car charger (or a PC lead) is restricted to 0.5 amp and this won't keep up with the satnav, and charging takes ages. Switched to a better one and for the first time the phone will fully charge and stay charged.
Cheers all - good geek knowledge spooky 😉
