If I use 'disc utilities' and extend the OSX partition over the Bootcamp partition will have made a horrible mistake? It makes sense to me, or do I have to somehow un-instal windows from my mac?

You want to use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the windows install and partition.
Applications > Utilities > Boot Camp Assistant > Follow instructions.

If you open Boot Camp Assistant in Utilities, then click 'continue'; leave 'create or remove Windows partition' checked and click 'continue'; then click 'restore'... Windows will be gone and the OSX volume will be returned to its original size.

Don't even try an' mess with Jamie on the quick posting lark. I have a blackberry, an iPhone and an iPad, I log on during the graveyard shift, take at least one of my devices with me when I go to the loo, and my laptop when I have a bath... I practically live in the internet. I still can't get close.
