I was supposed to be having a picnic party with mates tomorrow on a public common near me tomorrow , but the weather is looking a bit damp.

Can I put up a cheapy gazebo to shield us from the worst of the rain? Is there any rules about this sort of thing? Do I ask the landowner permission if so how do I find out who the owner is? It'll only be up for the afternoon.

I'd just do it - what's the worst that could happen? Be asked to take it down?

You could be prosecuted for loitering within tent.*

😆 morning coffee hadn't kicked in yet took me a while to get those puns.

Good point Johndoh. I guess I just take it down if someone complains... ?

Every park we've been to of late has had a small gathering/gazebo going on.

Don't be d1cks and i can't see it doing any harm.

I would be tentative about doing it

These predictions of possibly being asked to take it down could be a portent.

Wear a pink frilly shirt.
If challenged by the authoriies just point out that you're a little camp.

Given the current national mood it could be a problem if it's held up by poles.

gazebo is a temporary structure so in general the answer is yes, but there may be local byelaws that apply. Some parks and commons have signs up that list them all, worth a read, sometimes the strangest things are forbidden.

I've already checked out the area only signs I can see say no fires and no overnight camping in tents or motor vehicle. So I think I should be OK??

You really are trying to canvas opinion!

Don't peg the blame on us though if it goes wrong.

I guess its not like Hampstead Heath in London, where your erection would stand a good chance of getting blown off.

I bet you were trying to get out of this tent thing when some guy roped you into it.

If anyone asks you to take it down tell them to bake off.

I'll take a screenshot of your post Wolfenstein and use that as a gazebo permit incase I get any aggro 🙂

Get Marquee Mark to put it up, he's an expert.

Please don't fail to let us know how it turned out. We're all on tenterhooks. The suspense is intense.

Tape off the green and make everyone attending wear those white boiler suites or a old suit and trench coat.

Didn't go ahead with it. The forecast changed from light shower to lots of rain. Decided to just head to pub instead. Glad we did, morning was beautiful but soon turned very very wet all afternoon and evening long. wouldn't have been much fun being outside. Gonna see what the weather does next week and try again another time.
