The telly in question is a Samsung LE37A556. The wall sounds hollow when you tap it (the bit between two windows). Neighbours apparently had theirs done, how can I do it? Will this be any good?

If the neighbours have, you simply must.
And get a bigger TV.
And leave the curtains open for a good half hour after it's dark.

You could do with finding the studs & screwing into them

Those brackets are OK as they give you a lot of mounting options

Drill a wee hole to find out if the walls ar plaster & studwork, then find the timber studwork and fix to that.
If it's brick use an expanding bolt (but not in the mortar).

How do I attach the bracket to the telly? I can't see any obvious points.

If you're fixing it to the plasterboard use these,

made easier with one of these.

They'll hold a large radiator full of water on a plasterboard wall. Most modern LCD tellies have four threaded holes in the back positionned to a common standard to interface with the wall bracket.

Yep, those thingies up there work pretty well - you can hang kitchen cupboard off the things! I, however, went for a telly cabinet with a sticky up thingy that the telly dangles off. Just seemed easier than channeling in all the cables, replastering and all that bollocks. If you leave all the cables dangling everywhere it looks a bit shit.

(I am have serious typing issues tonight - must be the beer! Taken 3 or 4 goes to type every word thus far!)

Ive got a modern flat with metal studs so there's nothing to screw into, my solution was to fix a metal plate on the other side of the wall then put 4 screws through from the plate on the TV side to the plate on the other side of the wall. This wont work for everyone, im lucky enough to have a built in wardrobe on the other side of the wall.

Never done it but plasterboard is incredibly strong so witht eh correct fixings you shouldn't need to fix into the studs

Buy a stud/metal detector, usually spaced about 18" apart and try to use them if poss.
Otherwise the above pictured metal plasterboard screws are good but not infallible.
LCDs are a quite light really so should be OK and that reminds me how f***ing heavy the old CRT tv was to remove

HTH
