I've done the youth hostel before and 16 beds in a room didn't make a good nights sleep- and hoping to spend less than £50 for Holiday Express etc.

Colleague has stayed at Aldersyde Guest House and thought it OK for overnights. In Ferryhill area which is about 10 minute walk from Union Street ie city centre. About 15 minutes walk from train station (and new Union Square mega mall).
Gets not bad reviews on Tripadviser
Google for B& B's on Bon-Accord Street, it's full of them , all look nice from outside & 5mins to City Centre.
