The water coming out of our shower seems to be getting colder and colder.

Its not the boiler as the hot water for the taps in the rest of the house is still dead hot.

Its not an electric shower either, it just a pretty basic thing. Will it have some sort of thermostatic valve in it to regulate temperature, or is it just some basic mixing valve? Whats the problem likely to be?

Thanks

Have you tried turning it off and then on again?

Could be your thermostatic cartridge?

Don't most showers heat their own water? May be the box element thingy.

Thermostatic cartridge? I'll have a look into it.

Its not an electric shower, it doesnt heat its own water. It runs off the boiler

Could be your thermostatic cartridge?

This sounds the most likely cause. If you can isolate the mixer tap feeds, do so and strip the tap down, check everythings greased and moving correctly. If there's nothing obvious then its likely the cartridge has failed. Do a quick Google on how they work and you'll get the idea.

Sounds like a problem for a plumber then. I'll phone my letting agency tomorrow.

Similar thing happened with mine a while back and as suggested above it was the thermostat.

Pretty straightforward to change IIRC but not particularly cheap - circa £100 on a Trevi

The wax cartridges get tired after a few years and need replacing. In hard water areas they get calcified up as well and begin to default to cold.
