Finishing kitting out the van for summer road trips. We already have a fair bit of camping kit but want a fairly compact gas stove - we have a little single burner things and big gas barbecue but are after something a bit more versatile in between.

Have seen this...

... looks ideal but the small proprietary gas canisters put me off a bit.

Anyone got one? Are they any good? Any recommendations for alternatives? Requirements are - fairly compact, one or two burners, convertible to plancha and/or griddle plate.

propriatory gas is always an issue especially if small .

look at campinggaz camping chef - or the smaller one without the grill.

get the correct regulator and you can run them off a midi 907 butane cylinder and youll be able to change them at many european campsites/decathlons/go outdoors/cotswolds/tisos etc.

OR if you already have gas on board for your bbq just use a regulator and a long hose to that.

remember to have adaquate ventalation

Ive got one of those camping gaz stoves. The 907 isn't much better than cannisters in my view, around £40 for 2.75kg last time I refilled.

Next time I will use it with a calor gas cylinder, either propane or butane with the appropriate regulator, costs a fraction of the money.
Think about where the gas will go tho, needs a vented locker with the door to outside I think.
You have to be more careful with propane but it works in winter.

no need for an external door how ever you must have a lowest point vent sized specifically to that of the floorspace of the gas storage area AND the door leading to the habitation area from the cylinder storage must be gas tight.

the reason it cost so much for your 907 refill is you did it in uk. We get riped a new one. on the continent its much cheaper to fill. and easier to store if you have a small tin tent style van
