[Closed] CampervanTrackWorld: anyone used a Sheltapod awning?

Have been pondering over one of these for our Bongo. The current awning is fine once up, but quite the mission to get up and down; it also takes up quite a bit of room in the van and takes some pretty precise docking when used as a driveaway.

Anyone got any real world experience they can share?

Yes, we got one a year ago for our T25. Pretty good,  packs up small. Set up is critical, we haven’t always managed to get the awning part taut enough. A struggle to get the poles in the tent pockets the first couple of times. There’s been some development since ours so may be better now.  A great idea though and generally does what it says on their website.

I don't have one but I'm sceptical that it's as good as they state it is. I couldn't find any dimensions which is very strange. It looks very small

I can't see any significant benefits over a Decathlon 2m pop-up shelter like the one we have clicky.

They also have some newer improved designs out there which are probably even more useful. E.g. this and this.

Thanks guys. I agree it looks small, which is why I'm asking. Those Quechas do look good though, especially the Air Seconds Base XL.

@Atomizer – what's the put-up/take-down time like? That's the real bugbear with our current one (well, that and the amount of room it takes up in the van when packed).

The Vango AirBeam ones are impressive, but huge - that may have changed since we borrowed one a few years back though - well designed and made generally and go up very quickly. I guess some of it depends on whether you want it to be a glorified porch for your van or part of your living accommodation.

I believe that's what @supersessions9-2 has got @BadlyWiredDog and he's impressed with it. He had several adults and three dogs comfortably drinking apres-child-bedtime beer in it back in 2016 (the dogs weren't drinking much, to be fair). Our van is a little smaller than a T5 so pack size is important. I'll take another look though - cheers.

Takes about 30 minutes to completely peg out and tension. I’m never in a rush though. Sleeps two easily but normally only one in ours.
