Right so got a very old EOS 350D - Works well I like it (only an ancient 8MP)

Got a couple of lenses / flash / tripod

Does everything I need really, I'm not a great picture taker (phone does most of it).

But for when I need a nice camera I turn to this, sports day / kids / holibobs / etc.. Although it's old it does what I need.... apart from video..

So which EOS can I pick up for not much money that will shoot HD video / use all my current lenses / as well?

The 350D is a 1.6x crop sensor so ideally you'll want to keep that. 70D or 760D? They both have continuous focus during video which makes things a lot easier. I prefer the XXD series as they have a few more physical buttons and are tougher, but they do weight/cost more.

Just go on Jessops and sort by price ascending, pick whatever you want to spend 🙂 Current Canon range is very well priced IMO.

FWIW I would get another kit with lens as the new 18-55mm IS lens' are really good. IS is a godsend.

Of the xxxD's, the 500D was the first to introduce video. That will be your cheapest option I expect.

Going newer than that, the next processor upgrade is the 650D.

I got a 70D for my 40th, as an upgrade to my 350D. It's a good upgrade, but certainly not the cheapest.

I think wife & family paid about £525 for it (body only).

Keeping with the tradition of recommending what have, I bought a EOS 760d from SLR Hut (decent prices and generally a bit cheaper that Jesops etc.) in December. It shoots great pics and HD video. If that is compatible with your lenses then it appears to fit all of your needs. I bought it based on trawling through a load of reviews and, for the price, it seemed the best specced camera and had good feedback.

Only grumble is that spare batteries are quite expensive and non Canon batteries do not trigger the battery life indicator on the camera screen. Presumably Canon have developed some way of making sure you pay a premium for their own batteries and accessories.

Oh and I totally recommend mpb.com for second-hand cameras.

I'd prefer it if you spelt it correctly. (-:

I think they're essentially the same except the IS has image stabilisation.

I think you would be better off going for a 650d/700d/something in that range 2nd hand than getting a new 100d/1300d. A 700d will not be much more than a new 1300d and is a far better camera.

For example ( first one found on ebay )

I've got a 100D and love it, partly because it's so compact - stick a 24mm pancake lens on it and it's barely bigger than a compact and produces razor-sharp images. I think you need to be honest with yourself about what you actually need from the camera.

If you're just taking good quality family snaps and video for web use, it's fine and I use mine for work too. If you have aspirations to be a professional photographer / 'serious' amateur then maybe you do need something more complicated, but fwiw, I think the 100D's a good balance of compact size, low weight and good results.

I find I take it along on days when I wouldn't have bothered with my old 400D just because it is so small and light. I have a selection of quite decent lenses too, but increasingly just default to the pancake.

Nope, often forget to include peoples heads or legs in photos, I know my limits

I'm increasingly thinking that for your usage you'd be better served selling the lot and getting a decent compact.

http://www.techradar.com/news/photography-video-capture/cameras/best-compact-camera-2013-34-reviewed-963985

There's a "PowerShot G7 X II" in there if you want to stick with the familiarity of Canon.
