My trusty Panasonic now refuses to focus when using the zoom so time for a new one.

What is the best option for point and shoot - both indoors and out. Not interested in manual capability (I have none so the camera doesn't need it!). Good zoom has always been used so would prefer to keep that option.

Budget up to £200 but will pay more for something that warrants it.

Been looking at new Sonys as they have cashback offers on at the moment. Any thoughts?

Just got a Nikon S7000. 20x zoom, 16MP, proper 'pocketable' compact, not a bridge or CF. Seems like a good little point and shoot, from eBay for £99 (£130 from Currys). Mine was to replace a Panasonic too with the same problem.

Lumix TZ55 currently half price and pocket the £100 you saved?

Thanks all - looked at rx100 but got frightened off by no flash. Better than the HX90V?

I would also recommend the RX100, use one myself, however OP mentioned not interested in manual settings but favoured the zoom feature. The Sony is a little underwhelming in the zoom dept it has to be said. Size not being everything disclaimer....

So it does! I'm an idiot...

Any thoughts on comparison with HX90V?

Just looking at reviews, it looks like the trade off is that the HX90V has a viewfinder and a longer zoom, but a smaller sensor.

Any thoughts on comparison with HX90V?

It's a fairly straightforward case of Image quality vs zoom range/features.

Feature comparison here:

Very good, IME - no problems viewing it.

I don't know whether you've already bought, but Sony are doing double cashback (£60) on the rx100 until the 6th Dec.
London Camera Exchange have it for £259, so that makes it £199 in store or a few £ extra for postage.

Thanks for that Alex - took a look but decided that the HX90 was probably the better bet for me. Got it for 209 with double cashback and Quidco.
