Very stupid thing to be caught saying but given that Buhari ran and came to power on exactly the same point, it's not far off the truth. Buhari views it as his central mission, to tackle widespread corruption. Shame that much of his good intentions are being overrun by the collapse in oil and the Naira.

Surely getting an invitation to attend the summit is an implicit accusation that corruption is an issue in your country..... and accepting that invitation is an implicit acknowledgement? Who is offended here?
I'm offended the sheer hypocrisy - there are two sides to corruption, the corrupter and the corruptees. One criticizing the other is a bit f*cking rich.

It's all about how you phrase it, they are not corrupt but integrity depleted/challenged same as we are not allowed to point at fat people any more.
It's good to be honest at these things, unless the first seminar was about how to structure bribes and hide payments...

What's the issue? Both leaders of the countries named admit their countries are corrupt and they want help.
They are having a meeting this week to discuss it, if nothing else Dave brought some publicity to something that otherwise would have not made the press, after all the Dail Mail only want to report negative news.

I'm very surprised that this, and the Chinese comments, have been made public. Surely politicians and heads of state should be able to have conversations without it being front page "news"? What are the rules of engagement for this cameraman?

But Cameron is right. As an example of the depth of the corruption that is ruining Nigeria, there is virtually no public electricity supply. Lagos has a population of around 16 million yet it has a generating capacity for about half a million. It's widely believed this is because certain ministers receive a commission on the sale of every generator sold in Nigeria and hence there is no incentive for the government to invest in public electricity generation.
My colleague in Lagos celebrates if he gets an hour a week of "light" and spends a fortune on diesel for his gen. The massive extra cost cost kills businesses, the fluctuations and outages wreck your electrical equipment and "no light" is the excuse for any public servant who can't be bothered to do the job.

Its one of those statements we could all make but a "world statesman "before a conference on the issue should have had the sense and diplomacy to keep his gob shut.
GIven the UK and tax havens and his reluctance, PR spin aside, to do anything about it it was also astoundingly hypocritical
We are not corrupt we just profit from everyone elses corruption and keep the transactions secret.

I really don't think anyone (sensible) is claiming that Nigeria and Afghanistan are low-corruption countries and that Cameron is being unfair to them with his comments.
Whether it's appropriate for the PM of the country hosting the anti-corruption summit to be making those comments with the Head of State (gawblesser) and the Archpriest of the state sanctioned fairy-tale cult while being filmed and recorded is what's in question. IMO, while not exactly the sin of the century, it's a bit stupid to be talking so loosely - does nothing to get the leaders of those countries on one's side, alienates them further and allows them to go back to their people saying that the white man still thinks they're just a bunch of piccaninnies who can't be trusted to manage their own affairs - look, the PM said it to the Queen. This is the power of words and why they should be chosen carefully.
I don't know why anyone would be trying to swing it round to simply defending the veracity of what he said - it's like some people have an agenda or something. Christ on a bike, I can only imagine the right-wing-nut-job circle jerk we'd be having this morning if Corbyn uttered something similar.
