Looking to get an all in one for my 4yr old lad. Any recommendations or things to watch out for? Ideally £500 budget and want desk and reasonable drawers/ possible hanging storage too.

Thanks

Chris

We have had quite a few over the years. Best ones were Stompa brand - not cheap but plenty second ahnd on ebay (or I have 2 going free shortly that you might be able to make into one decent one if you are anywhere near Lincs). Ikea have a decent range

My thoughts are - dont bother with cabin beds - you dont gain much space, particularly as they get older.

Get one with a decent ladder - cant emphasise this enough. The ladder is always the bit that breaks and needs reparing first.

Changing the sheets is a real pain on a high sleeper.

Just this week had one from Aspenn Furniture. Little nuts loves it, is well made and they deliver and assemble it.
No desk on ours, just drawers and hanging space but I think they do several designs and pretty sure he'll make to suit as well.

Thanks for the replies. Out of interest what ages did your kids start using them from? My lad is 4 and some websites state British guidelines as 6+. Assume that’s risk assessment of them deciding to gambol themselves out?

We got our boy an ikea kura one. Very solid. Not too tall but big enough underneath for dens and storage. Probably not a desk though.

Used Stompa. They are all great. We had a cabin version then a full on sofa underneath. Well made, easy to take apart. Then pass it on.

Kids will climb in without any issue. For age 4 we went cabin because ours had a nice pull out desk. Not used of course, but it made a fantastic den cum toy storage area underneath and was way to lift sleeping son into as needed. The loft bed was used from about 10 when we moved to a room that was long thin and tall. The sofa was a great sleepover option and we used it a lot.

Ebay for local. Always collection only, but you’ll find one on great condition, ours had been in a spare room for grandchildren!

Changing the sheets is a real pain on a high sleeper.

+1

Also, when a child wakes up in the night calling for you, and just when you get there they projectile vomit be aware that they will a/ be at head height, and b/ anything that you don't catch full in the chest will cover an increased area of the floor due to the starting altitude.

Don't ask me how I know.

We have just bought a Stompa mid sleeper for our three year old. As above it is great quality, easy to put together and very solid when up. She has no issues getting into or out of the bed, part of the reason we went for it was the ladder design given her age.

Will be buying the high sleeper with wardrobe underneath for our six year old shortly.

Sorry cjr61, only just seen. My son in gbe ikea bed was 4 and quite small. The ikea square box system fits neatly underneath by the way.
