wet ones (?) specificaly....from where
Loads on ebay. The tubes are best for our climate, they work in winter, whereas flat ones don't
Edit. It's not to be taken lightly if you're diying it. Fluid temps can easily reach 200+ degrees and melt soldered joints.
Strictly speaking, you should do installer course first.
Is this for hot water only?
Can we get electrical generating ones?
it is for hot water only......and relax, it is not for me.
a worfk mate was asking if i knew anyone who sold/supplied them.
i just thought i would ask the font of all knowledge........the stw massive 😉
Have a look at Navitron. I know a few people that have put these in themselves and they work really well. Pretty much the same kit that other suppliers use under a different badge.
If they're thinking of accessing the renewable heat incentive when it is launched next year (maybe!) then they may need to get some kind of accredited installer to at least sign off the installaiton.
Hi Ton,
Try Max as he works for Sundog? he should be able to advise.... 😛
Southern Solar are in the south if you are.
Failing that the Solar Trade Association might be a good source.
Probably best to go for some nice German or Danish panels, they're supposed to be the best, but also the most expensive (in general).
told you the forum would come up trumps............cheers guys.
The best ones to have are the evacuated tube type, but he will also need a solar controller to make things run efficiently & a circulating pump pressure relief valve, auto air vent, pressure guage, various isolating valves a pressure vessel and a new twin coil hot water cylinder.
the firm i've been installing for use german made panels (5 year warranty)
also he needs to work out if he has a south facing chunk of roof (ideal situation) otherwise it means fitting panels on east and west facing sides (which means more panels & an extra pump) The'll sell him a south facing kit (all parts mentioned above + some other bits) for £1907 inc VAT
they are Global energy direct.co.uk not a job for the non-plumber,the system is filled with quite a strong mix of ethelyne glycol which Will find all available opportunities to leak ( this has been learned the hard way). if he wants someone to fit it give me a shout e-mail in profile
The tubes are best for our climate, they work in winter, whereas flat ones don't
Not entirely true - tubes CAN be more effective in winter months but it depends on manufacturer etc. Sometimes you're better off going for a decent flat panel that's going to work properly and reliably during spring/summer/autumn than try to be clever by going for a piece of cheap Chinese retro-engineering. I was in the game for a while and know that for every decent manufacturer/installer, there's a whole load of b0ll0cks out there.
Ton, I don't know where your mate is based, but if it's in Surrey/Sussex I can put you/him in contact with someone.
SM
Actually, I've just remembered another firm I worked with who did installs nationally. Mainly Genersys (flats) and Apricus (tubes) but may do other good stuff now. PM if you want more info.
