Not a camper, more of a family utility vehicle. Add in a rear bench+plus belts/anchors- circa 750? (would it need certifying in someway legally?) and how much roughly for the carpet/soundproofing fitted? The rear portion would be storage.

I would have thought so and the log book changing which might also change your insurance.
Would it not be easier/cheaper to buy a 4/5 seater with storage?

Would depend on the van. If it has the same body as the people carrier version, then all the hardware for mounting etc will be there.
If it is a different floor etc, then it will not hold the seats in the event of a crash or have proper mounting points for the belts etc.

Or buy a 9-seat minibus and take the back row of seats out? "crew cab" type van is probably best option though.

I'm sure I remember that first one (the orange one) from a top trumps set I had in the 70's!

Hora, on a serious note, you'll find plenty of tconverted "day vans" on eBay to give you some inspiration

carpets - search for megavanmats - they will sell you a kit of automotive carpet + glues for the size of van you have.

sound proofing/ insulation - you can do this yourself - fir celotex / kingspan behind the ply lining.

adding seats is a bit of a minefield - best off buying a combi van to start with.

Listen to Jeff! He's bob on with the carpet advice etc. I really enjoyed doing mine. I added rear seats on rails so I could take them out when I wanted to go away with the bike/surfboard but add them back in/move them around when I was sans kids or getting a load of camping gear in. The rails and load spreaders also make them a damn sight safer too!

The reason why Id want a van is twofold.....cheaper and basically a blank canvass.
