Bought a new lens today for my DSLR.i saved up for a 35mm 1.8 Nikkor lens which cost me £170.
Went into two high street shops and both had a go at selling me the display lens. The second of which was covered in dust and most probably fingerprints. I actually had to stop the bloke from
unlocking the cabinet and handing it over.err no thanks,I'll have a pristine one if it's all the same to you!
I asked him if he would really sell that to someone and his reply was "most people don't seem to mind" Bizarre

Is it? I'd always go for an unopened boxed 'whatever', but I wouldn't have an issue with a lens that had been in the window if it was the only one.

I've just bought one of those lenses! 🙂

When buying anything. I'd not want the display model. Unless they gave me money off.

My brother rented a canon 1D mark IV (I think it was anyway) last year as a backup for one of his jobs. The other week he got an email from someone asking if he had ever rented one as this guy had just bought it "brand new" from the shop full price and all my brothers info was still on it. Cheeky buggers, and he wasn't the first person to rent it out.

If they had knocked some money off the price I'd take it but otherwise I'd want a brand new in the box one!

Whenever I buy things and if they are display items I usually negotiate for a lower price of about 25%-30%. That piss them off a bit if they insist on me buying display item. On several occasions I got 20% off the retail price and there is nothing wrong with the item at all.

So next time try the trick of insisting that display unit should have 30% lower retail price ... otherwise, tell them you are buying New! Not display because display item has already earned it's value back.
