Brown shoes are for the country.
Never used to - but do now. Navy (almost black) trousers, brown shoes, brown belt.
A trip to our Milan office convinced me 😉
never wear any clothes that require black shoes - they're gopping

I wear dark brown shoes with black chino's, but always with a brown belt.

Brown shoes with grey or blue trousers.
Black shoes with any trousers.
Belt ALWAYS matches shoes.
If you have Italian shoes and Italian cut trousers, then match a belt and away you go.
If, however, you a pasty faced Briton, stick with black/black.
