I do still wonder if I’m missing the plot on exactly what they wanted to diverge from the eu to actually do, as you’d have thought we’d have seen it being done day one.
The fact that the pm effectively gets himself in a position that he has to use his other ‘deeds’ to save himself and they then have to rush out the levelling up document with massive reductions in funding as opposed to the eu schemes and pretty much the sort of things we already expect(reading and writing like).
Course add that to keep saying your low tax whilst increasing NI does make you wonder exactly what they do all day.
Perhaps I’ll be in shock and awe when I finally understand the great future Brexit will bring although it’s been done.
Honestly I wanna be a believer 🙂
So will businesses that want to demonstrate they are compliant with EU customs regulations now have to route goods to NI via ports in the Republic?
Duh, Brexit was about us being able to deliver the bestest mostest booster vaccinations. That’s how forward thinking they are, they’re just not sure what the next benefit is yet…
Good to see that those that pushed for Brexit were right about Northern Ireland… all sorted, no problem, nothing to see, move along…
Is this true? Is this the sort of thing Truss is wasting her time on, the type of thing the Cabinet Office's "Brexit opportunities unit" see as a some kind of benefit.

Yep walking into the 'spoons, "Pint of Dom and a packet of cheese and onion crisps please" 🙂
*anecdotal* first sunday morning drive back along the a14 in a while where have all the lorries gone ?
Parked at Dover/Calais?
*anecdotal* first sunday morning drive back along the a14 in a while where have all the lorries gone ?
With shit geography like that, you are Dominic Raaaaaab and I claim my £5.
really ? one end of the a14 is felixstowe the largest container port in the country... and reference to where are the lorries relates to 2 years ago doing the same journey at the same time @ least once a month it was really busy with lorry traffic, it's all the more surprising as since the a14 upgrade in those last 2 years it's a much a much more free flowing route to the a1.
It is a container port though. Felixstowe has been a mess for a while now, but the organisation and flow of container carrying lorries is different to roll on roll off. The delays can be kept/hidden/contained/mitigated in port (and sometimes on boat) much more easily. You can’t redirect a roll-on-roll of ferry to Holland because of backlogs in processing. You can’t tell a driver to delay their trip to collect their load with a roll-on-roll of ferry, they are travelling are with their load. Etc.
It is a container port though.
you don't say, and they never put containers on lorries or even build a road to facilitate their distribution around the country

a14
*anecdotal* first sunday morning drive back along the a14 in a while where have all the lorries gone ?
From new and recent experience of the A14, the drivers are probably queuing for a McDonalds at Cambridge services....
It isn't just a container port though. When I bought cattle across from Germany I came on a RO-RO ferry from Rotterdam to Felixstow along with several hundred other trucks. My guess is much of the Irish-Bridge traffic would have come this way straight through to Holyhead, but now goes around the UK on one of the new direct EU_Ireland ferries that have started since Brexit.
Top quality Brexit bonuses as always…

doesn't matter if they do, UK car manufactures will stay aligned to EU rules otherwise they can't export to the continent.
They are simply filling the media with good news brexit shite...
The hard of reading will not get past the headline.
As someone said on ****ter Pravda would not have the brass neck to publish this shite.
I demand my god-given right to be less safe in a vehicle!
I think that a lot of Brexiters will find this a hard sell tbh.

The blatantly obvious issue from the start - you can't sell abroad if you don’t meet their standards. How ****ing thick were people who couldn't see through this?
Ooo… a story where we can “stop the pesky EU” from insisting we implement standards that we developed… and at the time placate the “cyclists are the real danger on the roads” sentiment by not making vehicles safer for sharing the roads with others. Win win for those that need the support of the gammons.
I think that a lot of Brexiters will find this a hard sell tbh.
Dunno…
Health an safety gorn mad.
Can we bring back the pretty stainless bull bars that were unfairly banned for the 4x4’s.
Independent is a terrible page as far as pop ups go.
Looks like the eu are tweaking the vat laws so the members can legally drop the prices on energy to lower vat.
You guys should really think about rejoining, you might get more of the Brexit benefits you were promised.
Johnson just stop Trolling you are not funny

Oh FFS.
Surely it's the perfect stitch up? JRM keeps banging on about how much better off everyone will be Post Brexit and now Doris has put him in charge of those exact things.
So either JRM has to "come up with lots of great things", or admit that "there are no great things". Either way the British public win, no?
“come up with lots of great things”
He told us years ago... cheaper food, cheaper fuel bills, lower taxes.
All he has to do now is explain why food costs more, fuel bills are higher, and tax on workers is increasing.
don't forget the cheap shoes - the twxx
From that reshuffle link:
"Mirza was swiftly replaced by Andrew Griffith, a former investment banker and Sky executive who entered parliament in 2019."
And he took the safe seat from the previous MP who was elevated to The Lords...
AKA shoe-in.
Would it also surprise anyone he worked for Johnson previously and also worked with Dido Harding a while back.
At what point will the great-unwashed / Red Wall realise they've been utterly used & shafted?
Minister for Brexit Opportunities has to be the smallest brief in Westminster.

I asked the internet:
Dear Internet, "What did jacob rees mogg promise would be better after brexit"?
and verily it told me
"The UK economy could enjoy a post-Brexit financial dividend of £135bn in the five years after its departure from the EU"... "a £135bn boost to the economy between 2020 ans 2025, and another £40bn a year after that"
which sounds amazing, but I hath become confused because also
"Jacob Rees-Mogg Says It Could Take 50 Years To Reap The Benefits Of Brexit - We won’t know the full economic consequences for a very long time,"
well, that's difficult to know which one of those is correct, are we getting 135 billion absolutely straight away or is it going to take 50 years before we're back to zero?
anyway
"The best measure of levelling up will be how the economy grows and private investment flows to every part of the country."
yay! level up! another gloriously noncommittal pile of horseturd
but also he said
"politicians cannot and should not hide behind the small print, like some disreputable businesses do, but must recognise that a commitment was accepted in broad terms, not in pettifogging detail."
which I think was spoken about the magical bus money for the NHS, and given that his opinion is that politicians shouldn't hide he should be lining up to take the flak for that missing money any time soon, right?
Minister for Brexit Opportunities has to be the smallest brief in Westminster.
he could probably do it lying down, right?

Indeed, in reality he's just 'Minister for Tax Havens' and head death eater
Minister for supplying the usual suspects pro Brexit headlines.
I thought you lot had just made up the Brexit Opportunities post but incredibly I see you hadn't.
I can't but help think a lot of his own party aren't impressed by this sort of bat sh*t craziness either, behind the scenes.
Let's face it, it's a PR "job" really, bugger all substance behind it for the obvious reasons.
I Hope/ doubt I'll ever see a government so dysfunctional again in my lifetime.
I'm perpetually suspending my disbelief these days.
UK firms have been hit by "increased costs, paperwork and border delays" as a result of Brexit, MPs have said.
If only someone could have conceived of such a thing happening
All we need now is for the shooting to start again in Northern Ireland and we'll have a full house
I'm hoping for The Independent Kingdom of Cornwall and the Isle of Man to secede.
Jacob Rees-Mogg spends first afternoon in new role checking under furniture for any misplaced Brexit opportunities
Nothing that sensible - he's asked Sun readers if they could gather their brain cells and collectively come up with any.
That page still has " " for responsibilities, 5 days later. Nothing useful came from fishing for ideas from Sun readers then.
Yes I watched that @p7eaven and thought it was very good too. He's clearly no fan of Brexit but manages to deliver a balanced an entertaining talk. I think he's right that Brexit could be an opportunity to address some of the structural problems in our economy. Whether it will be is a different matter of course.
