Seafood protesters fined after descending on London
Funny how our MP, John Lamont (he covers Eyemouth and across to me), has been so quiet about Brexit since the 'deal'.
Turns out they're just crap at filling in forms - aye, right. We've all got to read the detail because Johnson didn't!
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-seafood-sales-boris-johnson-b1788936.html
I'm still waiting for all these mythical benefits to turn up.
HMRC are sorting guidelines for the paperwork you need to move house from the mainland to NI - some sort of goods movement license?
What an absolute **** up when you can't move within the UK without needing additional paperwork.
On checks yet to come…
https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/port-liverpool-could-face-delays-19647987
Original estimates of the number of checks required annually on products of animal origin after the introduction of new regulations has been increased by DEFRA from 23,000 to 24,500.
Last year, Mersey Port Health undertook 1,946 of the equivalent inspections.
Some changes to rules around sanitation checks did come into force at the start of 2021 but Mercola Douglas, chief port health officer, said the most significant would happen in April and July.

"These are not the customs checks you are looking for"
https://twitter.com/PeterStefanovi2/status/1351448952177094656?s=20
I don't think government ministers can say anything about Brexit without someone finding a Johnson quote claiming the opposite. He's promised everything to someone at some point.
As for Jedi mind tricks... Raab claiming the new checks aren't due to brexit was extraordinary. Having watched all those clips of him understanding nothing about trade whatsoever in front of select committees... I wouldn't be surprised if he still believes the bullshit though... belief is easier without understanding.
If you're looking for more objective media reporting of this total shambles. german TV is presently looking on incredulously at the absolutely mind-bending stupidity of this

It's going to be interesting to see how long the government is going to stick to it's 'teething problems' line when things are forecast to get a lot worse, as companies had stockpiled pre-Brexit.
This is the new normal. The only way things will get any easier is with a complete renegotiation of the 'deal'
I can imagine the gales of laughter that request would be met with in Brussels, not that this shower of incompetents would ask for it. They'll sit and watch UK businesses fold rather than admit that this whole thing is, as predicted, a complete disaster
400 pages of export documents for one ferry transport
Its entirely reasonable to expect some changes and teething problems, but the reality is these are far beyond teething problems. This will never go away (until we rejoin) and the damage done in the interim will kill off many businesses and potentially industries
Need to remember uk isn’t imposing checks till July and “dodgy”pallets aren’t yet being blocked. Familiarity might help processing the forms, the forms aren’t going away and the checks are going to get stricter.
I think very much this
It’s going to be interesting to see how long the government is going to stick to it’s ‘teething problems’ line when things are forecast to get a lot worse, as companies had stockpiled pre-Brexit.
My local supermarket is still well stocked here in the SW, each weekly shop this year everything on the shopping list has been on the shelves. The empty shelves in NI or issues in Kent are out of sight and out of mind to joe public here, I would expect most the general public are the same, till nationwide shortages occur and everyone is impacted people wont register that maybe Brexit was bad

In 6 to 12 months any business not viable under the new system will have gone bust and will not therefore be in a position to kick up a fuss, rather like everything else that the government mess up they just need to sit it out until it falls out of the news.
If you don't understand business in the first place, you won't understand the impacts, or how they will be passed onto you. People will moan about availability, prices and quality... but they won't blame Brexit... they will blame business. Give it a few years, and the "ripoff Britain" stories will start in the press again, with no reference to the Single Market or the Customs Union.
If you don’t understand business in the first place, you won’t understand the impacts
Referring to Johnson?
The "teething problems" will mature in the "obstructive EU" as the government push the blame on the EU. After all, it can't possibly be our fault that things haven't got better, can it?
Referring to Johnson?
Well, it applies to Raab and Truss. With Johnson, I honestly think he does understand, he's just a very accomplished and brazen self interested serial liar.
Just had the inevitable email regarding delivery delays due to brexit from head office, the same head office that had UkIP in to speak to employees before the referendum 🙄
Well, it applies to Raab and Truss.
I think we can lump most of the Brexiteers in with them. Utter dimwits who clearly have not the remotest understanding of how globalised international trade works. Expecting these morons to negotiate a trade deal fit for purpose is like asking me to conduct triple-bypass heart surgery
It was only ever going to end one way. Unfortunately, I think that, as most businesses have actually done a lot of preparation into Brexit, what we're seeing now is just the tip of the iceberg, and there's much scarier stuff on its way down the line. How long before big manufacturing plants have to start shutting down as they run out of parts? It's in the post, that's for sure
In 6 to 12 months any business not viable under the new system will have gone bust and will not therefore be in a position to kick up a fuss,
And people can't really kick up a fuss now. The seafood truck drivers protesting at Westminster the other day all got fined for breaking COVID restrictions. I bet Rees-Mogg thought that was delicious. The ****.
This is the reality of the 'frictionless trade' that Boris Johnson promised
https://twitter.com/JMPSimor/status/1351511829672030209?s=20
That doesn't look like 'teething problems' to me. That looks like an entire industry that is absolutey ****ed!
done fish, and now
meat, I can't find the article but apparently there are lorries in the Netherlands that have been there for over a week trying to get through customs. I guess it'll be landfill?

Perhaps (unless it's frozen) but if they've been sitting around for a week, what about all the other stuff they were meant to be transporting during that time? What about their employers who aren't getting paid for those deliveries?
Kwasi Kwarteng one of the authors of Brittania unchained and now business secretary admits that workers rights are going to be reviewed
Lying shite
Workers rights were always going to get thrown under the brexit bus.
37 hour week, minimum wage, it's all on the line and the cons are not going to make it better for the wage slaves, many of who voted for them. It's a really sad refection on UK society.
It'l be private health insurance next, whilst still paying tax on your wages for nhs.

Too obvious, social care, it's been talked about for a long time, everyone agrees there is a problem. Obvious solution compulsory insurance.
Workers rights were always going to get thrown under the brexit bus.
One of the fundamental reasons for Brexit. Our kids generation won't be enjoying payed holidays, maternity pay, sick pay, employers pension contributions, minimum wage or a limit on working hours. This lot are literally chomping at the bit to get rid of the lot.
And Covid gives them even more of an excuse to get on with it as quickly as possible under cover of the perfect storm
Kwasi Kwarteng one of the authors of Brittania unchained and now business secretary admits that workers rights are going to be reviewed
Reviewed? They've known exactly what they were going to do for the last 20 years once their moment arrived. No 'review' necessary. Everyone with anything between their ears (last official count - 48%) knows exactly whats coming
Utterly depressing report from Lewis Goodall from select committee today… if you like music, I suggest reading it all…

Kelvin - the EU offered visa free travel for musicians if the UK would reciprocate. Johnsons cabal refused to do so

It's easy, just like they made company's auto enrol people into private pension schemes.

the EU offered
Yes, I know, and much of that depressing Twitter thread is about exactly that.

I guess the ommission means that carnets will be needed to travel to NI .
The omission from her probably means she has no idea. Like most ministers, she has no idea what Johnson and Gove have signed us up to.
Nor do Johnson and Gove
So not only have the Tories screwed-over the fisherman of Banff and Buckie, they're failed to get the punitive tariffs removed that the US imposed on whisky as part of the spat with the EU and Airbus. I expect the distillers and fisherfolk of Moray won't be rushing out to vote Tory. Never mind, the farmers with their fresh beef and lamb will be looking forward to getting their exports ready...
another example of taking back co trial. What is the point of MPs if they refuse the opportunity to scrutinise?
Never mind, the farmers with their fresh beef and lamb will be looking forward to getting their exports ready…
I suppose we should be glad of reductions in live animal exports? But have to wonder how many lambs will just be shot and used as hunt food. What is the point if there is no market.
Surely you've all just missed the Brexit Dividend!
All those Northern Ireland based orchestra's will be doing top business touring the EU.
With regards to the arts and bands touring, a representative from the music industry was on five live last week
He said that having read all the new rules that unless you’re as big as Coldplay then touring in Europe is now completely untenable. It’s a total non-starter. There’s no way any band could cover their costs with all the massive amount of paperwork and custom checks and everything involved.
Because the EU offered exemptions which were refused by the government, I honestly think that it’s another part of the ongoing Tory culture war.
What little will be left of ‘The Arts’ after being cut adrift by the government during Covid, will be finished off by the new post-Brexit reality
It’s visible and understandable… the end of gigging tours around Europe that is… so people are talking about it. Just about every sector in Britain is also hit, but in ways that are harder to explain to the public… the pennies will drop over the next few years… with “get over it” ringing in the ears of people struggling just to keep their careers and businesses going.
Liar, liar...

kwarteng wasting no time; what a lying duplicitous arse - but we knew that.
^^Yeah, just read that.
I suspect the EU are less than surprised. I can't see us lasting a year without the EU having to hit us with tariffs etc due to us tearing up "the deal" before the ink is even dry. They know this lot just can't help but lie.
The Tories don't waste any time with stuff like this do they unlike decisive action on lockdown etc?
During a horrific pandemic the first thing the government absolutely should be doing is reviewing/ changing Labour regulations.😕
Not much on their plate at the moment I suppose.
It's all going going DH at an alarming rate

I've learned to look at the headline catch phrase and understand it as the opposite
Priti Patel said the Brixit deal "will make UK safer" which was obviously bollocks given the loss of accesse to systems and organisation.
Kwarteng says "We want to protect and enhance workers’ rights going forward, not row back on them" when the Eurpean media were reporting plans to row back last week which only now reach the BBC.
As for food standards: Defra Secretary Theresa Villiers has said that chlorinated chicken and hormone treated beef would not be imported into the UK after Brexit.
Wait for it.
Nice interview on R4 this morning with aberdonian fish rep. It was going so well he had my sympathy until he was asked about how he felt about his Brexit vote now. Suddenly it's not Brexit causing the fish export problems it's..........
